After a while, I'd talk to the local drivers at the rail yards, and they told me some short cuts, like one was marked 13'4" going one way, but if you waited for traffic to clear, you could make it on the other side. Just don't let the cops see you. Sometimes, in Chicago, that could save you 20 minutes going around it. Or one of my favorite low bridge stories. Before GPS or cell phones,, you'd call from a pay phone, and get directions from some sweet receptionist, get near the place, it's directly on the other side of a 12'8"!! Make sure you say you are in a truck.
True. Also need to look out when there is construction going on.had a guy low bridge a 20' container when he was following the direction of the traffic controller...on a route where he would fit traveling in either direction in the correct lane of travel
