Schneider offered a $2000 sign on bonus to me as a new hire with low experience (2 months). This seems kind of low. Is it, should I counter?

Many companies are offering $10,000. bonuses.
Do the work and have the names ready when you demand more.

    Labrador Thanks this.

No, you have two months experience. What happened at your first job?

I was working at a LTL/Docks trucking company. Over 10 months of classroom/driving/docks work experience they narrowed down 10 workers to 3. I was one of the workers laid off.

    tscottme and Dennixx Thank this.

What LTL co was this? Is trucking slowing down that bad? I thought it was still going strong.

You might have some fine print to consider whenever there is a sign-on bonus involved.

    Labrador Thanks this.

The most important thing about a sign-on bonus is it's paid out in stages. I've never heard of one that was a lump sum payout before 90 days.

    baha and Labrador Thank this.

Sign-on bonuses are usually a function of several different factors--how tough a time a carrier is having filling a position, where the job is, & the lanes you will run.

If you have previous LTL experience bumping docks, that definitely counts as leverage to bargain for more sign-on bonus.

Be prepared to discuss your previous experience in detail (if you haven't, already), and...as mentioned above.....be ready with names/other examples of better sign-on bonuses.

And yes, sign-on bonuses are paid out in stages. Find out how much/often/when each portion is paid.

It's definitely a driver's market out there right now....and recruiters know this, so.....don't become too attached to any one particular driving opportunity.

There's more where that came from, if that one somehow doesn't work out.

    Also--what endorsements do you have?

Generally speaking--the more endorsements you have--the more leverage you have (now--and later) for better sign-on bonuses.
