I have a 500 12.7 DDEC III in a 98 Pete and mine says the same thing. I asked Rebel127 about it but I don't think he was familiar with it. I hope someone knows the answer because I've always been curious. I'm wondering what hard parts might've been changed. I'm sure they put a low NOx file in the ECM but I don't know other than that?

    Socal Xpress Thanks this.

yeah same here. the engine runs like a sewing machine, the guy I bought it from said he had a new or used e.c.m. put on. if it's just programmed with the low nox codes, i'm sure i can have that taken care of, "hopefully" but if were rebuilt, that would be real nice knowing what I paid for it, & the condition overall.

Runs like a sewing machine meaning smooth and quiet? How's the power compared to your old 11.1?

Off topic, but mine will be up for sale this week. It needs an inframe but I'm dropping in a DDEC IV 14L and having Rebel tune it instead.

When the engine was rebuilt the dealer installed a low nox up grade in the ecm. When they did my 97 I lost a mile per gallon that I never could get back.
They don't tell you up front they just do it , EPA rules.
If you have older Detroit don't get it rebuilt at a dealer as they are require to install low nox programming, go to a independent shop and they won't touch you ecm except to set injector trims.
Best to never go to a Detroit dealer with any problem as they may upgrade you program without telling you.

    c-cross and SAR Thank this.

Sounds great, drives like a car. Drove 700 miles home, handled flawless. Not sure on power, definitely more than my 11.1, but ya really would have to pull a load to see and compare.

Low NOx rebuild is programing they do with the ECM that reduces NOx. It takes about 15 minutes to download it. Mine had been done in 2005.
