It turns out they installed the wrong mains. The supplier they use typically has their bearings marked with the same numbers CAT uses. Some way or another, they received the wrong ones. They checked the thickness on both and they were the same. But the overall diameter ended up being off just enough to let oil blow through the end gaps. They concocted a way to mount an air line to the engine and blew air through it til they found the leak.
Ole Red sounds better than it has since I bought it and holds 60ish PSI going down the road now. And without any temperature issues yet. Haven't put a load on it though.

I'd be wanting answers as to why they said clearance was fine when they checked it.
Did they even plastigauge the mains during the original overhaul?drh72 and blairandgretchen Thank this.
