First off, no one asked what kind of engion you have. the peek power is at a different rpm on catd, detroits and cummings. They all require different rpm to shift.

That being said, on the lower (1-4) side drop a full 400-500 rpms on each shift. On the uppper side (5-8th) drop only 200 rpm.

Just got off the phone w/ a driver I've know for 30 yrs. he's been behind the wheel for 34 yrs and an O/O,mechanic,OTR,ect. He's my road book. If there's a good eat'n joint or short cut he knows about it. Anyho,he's never heard of a 13 w/ the split on the low side either. Funny how none of us old guys every seen one.

There was/is a 15 speed with a deep reduction on the low side.
Perhaps that is the one that was meant.

it was a 1989 pete daycab if i remember right.

and it pulled a end dump.

so if eaton didn't make it. then it was rigged cuz the bottom is where it split and not the top. i drove that truck for a year. 5 years ago.
they also had a 1985 pete that also pulled a end dump. it was a 10 speed that shifted in a U pattern and not the typical upside down N pattern.

just becuase you old timers never heard of it. don't mean it don't exist. and with the trucks being 25 years old. who knows what mechanics do.

and you might be right. i think it did split the very low granny gear also. which would make it a 15.

that truck didn't have much for power. struggled on the hills. having to take off on a incline was a beach.

The Eaton 15 speed rto drove like a 10 speed with a funny u shift pattern and deep reduction, I drive that one for a few months last winter and grew to like it. The main gears are a little high but the rpm drop between gears is small, it wasn't a bad shifter and you had deep reduction if you really needed it.

You can't split a 15 sp. because there is no OD. It has 2 range selectors not a splitter. Deep Reduction,Low and Direct. Has a Blue range selector on the Head. The funny U shape pattern is not unusual in Trans. It can be on the inside of the pattern (15 Direct)or the outside(15 Over). If it's got a OD splitter like a 13sp and the outside gear selection pattern is reversed(funny U shape)its a 13 Double Over.
