Well as many of you know I transferred to another YRC terminal about 6 months ago to do line-haul after I was on layoff. At first I didnt mind the relocation as it was more privacy with the gf, on my own, 10 minutes away from work etc. Well having to go home every weekend for only about 40 hours or so is just becoming a real drag. Pretty much I got enough time to sleep on friday day, go out friday night and keep it early saturday night as I have to be up at 5am for work on sundays. during the week I cant really make plans as I dont know what my schedule is like, what time Im going to work at, I can call for extentions but it makes the week longer and less time off

Now Im sure your all saying go back on the extra board. I would but the thing is you have to complete 6 work days before time off. It can take anywhere from 6 days to as long as 8 or 9 and it decreases your paychecks. Although my rent is cheap I still like to have spending cash and just to keep some extra for savings

Well today I had an interview with UPSF as a road driver. Small terminal, drivers seemed to be really happy there, although they did say theres no perfect job ever. Pretty much spoke to me and wanted to schedule a road test but when the guy realized I live far away he decided to do it today so he grabbed one of the drivers to give me a test hooking a set and driving. Passed with flying colors, heck after a few turns he was like ok you know what your doing... even thought I was driving longer than 3 years. Then today they were ready to get my physical and druge test to start quickly. Couldnt get the physical in but drug test was in so he scheduled one close to me this week.

Now before I go anywhere else. even with all the BS going on, I REALLY ENJOY working at YRC. I have been trying to get a transfer(two terminals close to my dads) as I wont return to my old one again. I really dont want to have to go back into the city, I would do the dock before that. I tried for a jockey and road but no luck. But at the same time I just want to move home, Im still a little far from majority of my friends just north of NYC but its only 45 min away vs 2 hours, plus I got friends where my dad lives as well, plus theres more to do, where I am now is in the middle of no where and friends never come up there...(except the gf)

Pros of UPSF - higher pay, terminal is close to home, newer equipment, same union and local as I am now. monday-friday 7pm start time, no extra board or waiting by the phone. Better benefits, and I get an assigned truck again which is nice. And I will be able to finish some things i never got a chance to by having a set schedule, and will be able to have somewhat of a life again.

Cons - quite a bit of pay decrease to start with(im going to be living at dads so no more rent), there is a little bit of dock work with line drivers, but from what other drivers told me its not terrible( my run is all paid hourly no mileage, believe its a lil over 75 miles each way) That run they said is really the only dock run they have. As you all know I dont like working the dock but il take it over dealing with customers all day. A lot more saftey things over YRC, more write ups but I tend to stay away from that kind of stuff so im not too worried

Well thats my story on this.. what do you all think?
I have already spoken to a few friends about this, the gf and my parents, I wont post what they said though this way I get everyones honest opinion

Oh okay, thanks bro. From reading your post, seems like your a lot happier with your new job. That's good news to hear. I can't get what i want, just got my license in march. Had my b license for 10 years. But i guess companies don't take that into consideration. Don't get me wrong, i know a B license is different from A license. I just don't want to go OTR. Well good luck bro.

For OD, you have to have doubles/triples, and hazmat.

ACH, seems to me like those pros outweigh the cons by a huge margin! UPSF seems like a great company, and all of their drivers that I know seem really happy with their jobs.

Sounds like a good gig. I work for Conway and work the dock every night for a couple hrs in Newburgh or as much as 6hrs in Albany, but Id rather work the dock for a million hrs than deal with one customer on P&D.
