I know I said this before and thought Id get better answers here, I believe that some of the LTL companies should have some flatbeds due to some crazy loads we can get. Certain stops are good about getting it out as others are clueless.
Now I know ABF has a flatbed division. Im sure they driver was trained on it all with tarping, and strapping, and even using the forklift. Even if each LTL barn had one or 2 flatbeds with trained drivers would be fine...
LTL should look into getting Flatbeds

Well it may work but the last few LTL flatbed loads I witnessed was not so pretty, one was in Florence South Carolina with a load of lumber and half off the trailer.
Second load was in Manassas Virginia with two air compressors that fell over on the flatbed. -
For a newbie that lucked into a great job, you sure complain a lot. There are a variety of reasons items are shipped by van and not flat, up to and including the items would need taped and the tarps would damage the finish of the item.
MNdriver, Mommas_money_maker and aiwiron Thank this. -
I might ad that palletized loads in boxes tend to not fall of the trailer so easy.
-
You mean the customer doesn't want that box crushed by a 4" strap?dirtyjerz Thanks this.

If ltl barns had flatbeds with cargo that needed to be swapped to another trailer but also needed to be kept dry and it is raining out what would they do?
-
Well those dings and dents will buff out, after all is done the box will be tossed anyway..........

YRC did have a steel hauling division many years ago
Many of the terminals had flats but would not use them .. after sitting some were sent to Las Vegas to do the trade shows the rest were sold offACH1130 Thanks this. -
Im not complaining at all, its just an idea. Next time I get some stuff that shouldve been flatbedded I will take a picture, especially bringing back to yard cause the guys cant get it off or refuse it. I have my methods of getting it out of vans, hence why I carry tons of straps and ropes... Im the only one who does so thats why usually get them, and I do ny best to get it off the truck

UPS freight has flatbeds also.
I think that the LTL companies should stick to van trailers and let us flatbedders deal with the flatbed stuff. LTL is my gravy half the time and I have no problem moving a 2,000# crate for full truck rates
Mommas_money_maker Thanks this.
