LTL, why do many feel it is the best job in trucking?

Sounds like she needs to go OTR for awhile.

Would you guys commute an hour to do LTL because Conway is near me but both terminals are exactly the same amount of time away with me being in the middle. One starts at 19.99 and the other 20.23

i was thinking of doing this after getting 2-3 years but I really don't want to commute 50 miles there and back living in the berkshires of MA kinda sucks with Albany NY on one side and Springfield on the other

Not only NO but HELL NO! You are barely gonna have time to have a meal and a good sleep during your work week, if you live close to your terminal. But to live an hour or so away, you would lose two precious hours. And those times when you do NOT get your ten off, (and yes, it will happen on occasion, in fact, you may not even get 8 off,) the commute will kill you. Possibly literally, if you can't get enough rest.

If Conway where you are, is like Conway was here when I was working, I doubt they would even hire you living an hour away. Too often they put you on "standby" so they don't have to pay your full salary, then will call you and expect you at the terminal at the drop of a hat.

NOTE: I have never worked for Conway myself, but this is from drivers that I knew at Conway.

    #### it. The only down fall of literally living in the sticks. I guess when the time comes I hope this hazmat tanker fleet of like 9 trucks hires me right out of my town or else I'm literally Fked unless I get a dump truck or cement mixer job but that will leave me taking a pay cut of up to 5 dollars with me making $21.60 if I run 60 miles in an hour at the job I'm at now.

So are you saying that Conway is a nest of libertarian cowboys who thumb their noses at petty nit-picking rules like the DOT 10-hour break?

36 cpm isn't bad pay for a new driver, depending on other factors.
Figuring out the whole $$ per hour rate can be really depressing...

Depends on who you work for. Different terminals do different things, no matter that they are all supposed to adhere to HOS and company policy.

Also, the longer you are around trucking, the more you will see that sometimes crap happens that needs to be taken care of. NOW not later. Sound like BS? Wait and see.

Oh yes, I've seen a little bit of it already.
I suppose if you're mixing dock work with driving, that's much more possible, too.
    Does Conway run paper logs?

Don't know. As I posted, I never worked for them myself, besides which I've been retired since 2008. What I know of them, came from drivers that we shared a dock with.

Because this week I worked only 4 days and still grossed $1200. Last week I made almost $1900 filling in for a team run. Mon-Fri schedule, home every day, even when teaming would come back to the house every 24 hours for a couple of hours to shower and grab lunch.

Compare that to filling piss bottles and eating Arby's while you wait for your turn at the Home Depot distribution center in McDonough, GA for free.

    OTR never again.
