Who here has lied to a potential employer about old DUI's (10yrs), and got hired and they never found out or lied and they found out?
I tempted to lie about my almost 13yr old DUI and my 11 yr old DUI. One dui at 18yrs old then one again at 21 yrs old of age in different states as well. Lie and pray and hope they don't find it or just tell them??

You get Hazmat or a TWIC card, they'll find it.

There is no reason to hide it as they are outside the disqualifying window. Plus it's good character to be up front and honest.

You have to be honest with everything, after all people are counting on you once you get hired. So be upfront with everything. You had a couple of DUI's many years ago. I'm sure you have made changes in your life and will likely do nothing like drive drunk again. People make mistakes and mistakes can be forgiven. Though lying about what you did will show poor character indeed. Lying about a DUI is the worst possible thing you could do. You certainly do not want to be working at a trucking outfit for a while only to be called into the back room. You can imagine the look on your bosses face as he looks down at some papers with your history on it, the boss takes a deep sigh and says your fired.

Be upfront about it. It will make your life much easier, when this is something your not worried about. In this profession you certainly do not need to be distracted. Be completely upfront and if you do not get hired you do not get hired. Though seeing as how it has been a long time since you got those two DUI's and have not got another you may get hired. Lying shows a complete lack of character and no one will even think of hiring you for a trucking job if you lied about something like a DUI.

So understand you may get hired and you may not get hired. The thing is to try and go after it, without lying.

    All the best,

    Theophilus.

If they asked "have you ever had a dui?" then be upfront. If they only asked for your ten year or 3 year history then you will be ok unless you go to canada (dui is a felony no matter how old) and dont bother getting a hazmat or a twic as you will be screwed.

I can't beleive anyone would even consider lying about that, HELLO!! We live in an age of computers and endless recources to obtain information you don't even remember let alone a DUI. Not a good plan.

Keep trying, and don't give up.

Try some local stuff even it is low paying, go and meet with people, let them see you and talk with you. Let them get to know you. The bigger trucking companies have certain polices in place and regardless of the person you are today, they only go by their policies.

    DO NOT GIVE UP.

Go after it, you can make it happen. Employers are going to have to meet you, put yourself out there.

Your honesty about what you have done and the fact that you will not hide it, will impress some and make them feel your a good guy to hire on.

I think you will get hired on, it's just going to take a good amount of effort on your part, but I think you can make it happen.

I would hire you for being honest, that is something I would look for in a driver.

You have, yes hurt yourself with these two DUI's, but I don't think it is something you can't overcome.

You won't be able to simply put an application online and be hired.

You are going to have to meet with people upfront.

I don't see any reason why with a little work and meeting with employers personally, that you can't make it work.

    DON'T GIVE UP.

They are old enough that something will shake out for you.

However, lying about them is certain death to any job in transportation. There is a permanent record, so they cannot be hidden.

You will find something. And when you do, it will be the right job for you.
