Made mistake on paper log-what now?

What kind of mistakes are you making that you need to rewrite the log? Are you maybe filling it out to soon? Just wonderin.

Could be a mistake, or maybe not. But doesn't sound like a question from someone who has been out here for 30 years. Just sayin..................

 

Hard to believe anyone would ask.

Just tear it out and start a new page. If the page is gone, no one knows.

 

You have to have "today's" log page, and the previous 7 days. They way I read this, I see nothing saying you have to have a stapled/un-stapled/loose leaf log book. I would not advise ripping out pages and leaving them obviously ripped out. It might earn a closer look at the rest of your book and paperwork.

(k) Retention of driver's record of duty status. (1) Each motor carrier shall maintain records of duty status and all supporting documents for each driver it employs for a period of six months from the date of receipt. (2) The driver shall retain a copy of each record of duty status for the previous 7 consecutive days which shall be in his/her possession and available for inspection while on duty.

 

I would not leave the book with the staples in it. It would be loose leaf from the start.

 

I just breezed thru the little green book, and did not find anything that addressed how to handle "mistakes." My guess is that it would be officer discretion on how to handle something of this nature. The best bet is to run a loose leaf log, not so that it is easier to cheat the system, but so that you can easily get rid of your "mistakes" and no LEO can call you a liar over a correction and issue you a ticket.

 

I have used white out and made the corrections. Initial the corrections. Never was questioned by any DOT.
Some states have in their regulations that if your log book is stapled, it must contain 31 pages. There is no Federal requirement.
