Picked up my load of tires in Topeka, KS last night at 19:30 and took off for Terrell, TX. It was a little heavy, 42,000 pounds, but the truck pulled it like it wasn't even there. I had a really bad head wind and really crappy weather, so I didn't get the fuel mileage that I hoped that I would. It was not a bad load tho really, drop and hook both ends. When I dropped it in Terrell this afternoon, I was told to grab a specific empty.....
I really hate when a driver drops a trailer knowing that it needs repairs, only because they feel that their time is more valuable then anyone elses. I was supposed to just drop and hook and head home to load the rest of my gear and enjoy an evening with my wife and kids. But instead of getting home this afternoon, I got home this evening. The trailer that I picked up had two blown hub seals on the drivers side, and barely had any oil left in both of them. So after a trip to the T/A and a few hours later, I was headed home.
I load out again on Monday morning with another load of tires, heading up to Missouri for a Tuesday morning delivery. I hope that they keep me running, because I really need to make some money before Christmas. -
I also started at act the week before you did(thanksgiving week).Chose that week because orientation only lasted 2 1/2 days.Everything you guys have posted is absolutely true, everybody was very truthful and eager to help in any way they could. The guy big al with landstar can have it,Ive known drivers who went there and its not so rosy as he leads it on to be(plenty of post on this site about landstar).Im not interested in driving junk,as 90% of landstars trucks are, enough about the jealous guy.My first week (4 days) I drove from Topeka,KS to Richland,IN - 680 total miles, then deadhead 277 miles to Ottawa,IL for a load with 2 stops in Dallas,TX 882 miles loaded to del. on mon morning 0400 (yuck) but ended up with 1839 miles for 4 days that paid me on fri. right at 1500.00.Now there was no truck pmt taken out of this check,so it would have been 573.00 dollars less, but all other charges were taken out(permits, fuel, insurance, maint).Im very impressed with act and hope to do well here.Am going to run around 3000 miles this week,I'll let you know friday when I get paid.Ive found that if you work hard,be safe,do your job that you agreed to do,really good things can happen to you.
Boss Hoss, Lonesome and supertruckerporkchop Thank this. -
really enjoy reading all these posts and not trying to bash anything or anyone. but almost $110,000 for a used truck. thats big pill to swallow. -
From what I've seen so far, this company actually sets you up to succeed. I'm really excited to get on the phone tomorrow and find out for myself.Boss Hoss Thanks this. -
Lonesome, Boss Hoss and supertruckerporkchop Thank this.

I don't think that that is all that bad considering if I were to go to the dealer and buy a similarly equipped truck and financed it for 3 1/2 years, I would end up paying higher then this with interest. I think that things are looking good from where I'm standing.
Just my .02 -
cool guess those numbers are pretty close then. just thinking when i bought mine few yrs back and was only paying 750 a month. was lucky got a good trk and paid off way early. so guess the difference in the numbers freaked me out lol. how does the balloon work all at once or can you do payments on that?

Very interesting and informative posts. Nice to see a generally good conversation about this without much name calling.
