I always seem to find the drama in trucking. I showed up at 8am per my contract to get a load of onions going from Parma Id to Phoenix Az. At 9am the shipper informs me the receiver has switched to another type of onion which they don't have in stock. He said they would have them at 11am. So at 12 noon nothing, then they said 2 pm which then became 4 pm. Then I called the receiver and discovered they really didn't need the order changed afterall. They hurried and loaded me. I told the receiver I could not meet the delivery time and would need another day. He refused and said he needed them per our contract and wouldn't budge. I reminded him he was in violation of our contract when he changed the order. So then the magic words that I learned from you experienced owner ops on here. "Get this off my truck now"
Suddenly phones began ringing and people started to panic. The broker called me and congratulated me for solving the problem for him. It turns out the delivery was just fine a day later than they told me before the magic words were spoken. So I demanded cash and prizes in exchange for waiting all day for an order that wasn't even needed. The owner of the shipping company came out and apologized and wanted to shake my hand. All this drama for a load of onions. I sure need to switch to flatbed soon!!
I want to thank all of you owner ops who have given me such good advice on this site. It sure paid off.
Magic words at the dock!!

Happens in car hauling too, I called a customer to tell him when I would deliver his car and the COD price, he started screaming that he wasn't going to pay that price, I said I had a contract, he started telling me he wasn't going to pay, so I said, "Fine, I'll just pull over and dump this car on the side of the road and you can come and find it" and hung up. He changed his attitude.........

Had a guy at a dist center tell me 150.00 to unload. So you want me to pay you to unload your freight
Yep. Told him I'll just haul back to where it came from. I'm going outside now and pull ahead and close my doors. Had 1 door closed when showed up and said we can off load that right now. It was a miracle
