FWIW, in 50 years of working with CB radios, I've never run into one that would fail if momentarily keyed without a proper load. Extended key-down is another issue. Perhaps I'm lucky, but I never saw one blow up accidently, or with an SWR that was less than 3:1, even with extended use. Maybe during the time I've been away there have been radios that didn't incorporate SWR foldback, but I was fortunate enough never to have to deal with them.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. In the last 16 years of my professional career (1990-2006), I never saw a single Realistic CB fail, at least not to an antenna mismatch, and in my earliest CB days, back when we were selling US made tube-type radios, such a thing was unheard of. If in the intervening periods when i've been away from the CB scene there's been crap put out that is that sensitive, it deserves to die.

In my experience the Wilson outperforms the K40 every time.
