I finish school the first week of January and am strongly considering Magnum out of Fargo. Everything that I've been able to find out about the company sounds great but I'm looking for info from current Magnum drivers. Does anyone on here drive for them? If so, what are your observations... good or bad?
Thanks!

Landene,
Having not yet reached the required 50 posts, I can't PM you. I'm checking with one of the admins to see if I can post my email address here so that you could email me. *UPDATE* I can't post my email addy here, but one of the admins has forwarded it to you. Please email me and we can discuss Magnum through that method.

Can any of you tell me any thing about Magnum????
-
Farmer,
I obviously don't work for them yet, but everything I've heard about them is very positive. Good equipment, good miles, fair and honest dispatchers, don't play games with bonuses, etc. In a more general way, they're strictly a reefer company, run lanes mostly in the midwest, upper midwest, mid-atlantic. No Canada, no NYC, no New England, no Mexico, no west coast. I've talked with several of their terminal employees, recruiters, as well as current drivers. There are companies out there that pay a little more per mile, but Magnum seems to really take care of their people. I talked to one current driver last night... Magnum dead-headed him from Iowa to North Carolina, just so he could be home for Christmas.

IronRydr,
Thank you for the info. Yes I do start 1/5/09 in Fargo. Everything I have found points to they are a good company. I live in Minnesota so I think the area they run will be perfect for me.
Do you know if their trucks are governed at 65? -
Farmer,
From talking to their drivers, I think their trucks are governed at 67, unless... the computer on the truck can penalize you for over-idling, too much fuel used, etc., in which case it governs the truck back to 62. But, I understand, even when that happens, within an hour or two you can have it back up to 67. The one driver that was telling me this has a truck that doesn't have an APU, hence, he has no choice but to idle in hot/cold weather.
Good luck to you! I'm hoping to be in Fargo myself around the 16th or so of January. Give me a shout sometime...Farmer Trucker Thanks this. -
Howdy Farmer Trucker,
Just as Iron indicated Magnums trucks are governed to go a maximum speed
of 67mph. this year around the time when fuel prices were going through the roof
they implemented a new program within the fleet that they call the "CAT Rewards
Program". in a nutshell its a tiny computer thats mounted into the dash
that will allow you to monitor the info from the the catepilar engine such as speed, fuel mpg etc. the rewards program gives you a score on about 4 or 5 different
areas based on the last few hours the truck has been operating and your score must be at least 81 in order for the speed governer to remain at 67 mph. score 80 or below and your speed goes back down to 62mph. it took some getting used too in the begining
but with my truck at least ive noticed the better i shift and wacth my idling i can usually stay set at 67mph the majority of the time. one slight correction from what iron said about magnum being a strickly reefer company they do also run quite a few dry vans as well for a few of they're customers. mostly stuff such as paper, dog food, and sugar.hope this helps you any.

Landene,
Thanks again for your input on Magnum and it was a pleasure talking to you. FYI, I called Laith today and accepted a position. I have to wait until my road test with DMV next week to know for certain, but I'm hoping to be in orientation around January 19th. I'm looking forward to meeting you somewhere down the road. My CB handle will be the same as my screen name here... IronRydr. I'm looking forward to joining the 'boys in blue', LOL.
Farmer,
Good luck! If I could have arranged it, I would have joined you in orientation on the 5th. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll be waiting until the 19th to get started. -
All that I know of Magnum is good. I was hauling a load of hay to Sauk Center MN on 94 New Years Eve and I counted 5 Magnum going west to Fargo I hope they were going home for the holiday.
When I talked Magnum he did tell me that all the trucks are 2005 and newer with super 10's and straight 10's and some have APU's
I'll try to post a note on or after the 5th when I start with Magnum
Happy New Year!!!!!!!
