Some of my best months with Gordon and Interstate were running Northwest during the winter because most drivers didn't want to go. And you're right! I've been stuck on I24 in KY fir almost 18 hours because of snow. TN is just as bad...God put it there...god'll take it away.
Going to get with Nick and Stan and see if I can work out delivering this coke backhaul to Columbus sunday afternoon or Monday morning if Stan can get me rolling from there. That'll cut out the deadhead from Comumbus back to Dayton and I'd get paid for everything still. Then I'll just have e to get a ride from the J to the hotel I'm staying at...that has a bar and restaurant.

Not required to chain? Please explain because I wasn't aware. Got this message to pick up chains last week.

Some states require you to have them on the truck. Take Oregon for example if you drive thru a snow zone after Sept 1 you must have them with you. Even if it's 60 degrees outside.

November 1st til April 1st. I’m sitting in the TA in Aurora Oregon with not a chain to be had. Nor will there be. Bags take up too much room.

So do you just sit instead of chaining?

Tell that to a Colorado state trooper. As he hands you a ticket for not having chains.

This is very simple. You must have chains on your truck by state law. Different states have different dates…I know Colorado is Sept 1st. and they do run checkpoints.... But they are mandatory.
If you choose not to use them and sit in a truck stop and wait for the roads to be open… That is your prerogative. You won’t get layover pay… But Magnum will reschedule your appointment.

Yep, you don't have to use them but you are required to have them on the truck. I've used them more to get out of docks or thru parking lots. I do chain up when it makes sense. Any Rocky Mountain state can ask to see chains and the tickets aren't pretty. WA requires 8 sets of singles...2 sets to be carried as spares if others are broken. Like we posted a few weeks ago, even Georgia can require the use of chains...no chains, no go. Fun stuff!

That's what I was always taught, you don't have to put em on, but have em on board.

Well since we are not required to chain I say bring it on except for Wyoming...I think every trucking company should start making the state of Wyoming pay out layover....watch those roads open up real quick.

I will run anywhere but down south in the winter time....the drivers just go biserck and the ones who are originally from up north just throw winter driving out the window.
