Ive had no issue with miles. There has been a few slow months, a few really busy months and some average months. I also don't live check to check. I have taken ONE cash advance... And that was my first week solo.
For ME.... I try to look at the overall picture. Averages aren't calculated by what we do in a week or a month. I can look at my last year. When I do that, I'm right where I need to be.
I've had a month where I got a reset every weekend. I've also had a month running on recap and finally had to ask to please let me get a reset.
Remember, there was a major Bird Flu outbreak in the Midwest last year that two of our major customers are just coming back up to full production.
The worst thing we can do is listen to someone posting out of anger or frustration and take it as fact for everyone. Then it's all about emotion and less about facts. Then we react instead of have empathy. I am guilty of this myself. I apologize.
Then there are the trolls to try to incite problems that don't even work for Magnam. Picking on a driver having problems or taking one thing someone says and comparing Magnum to Communist China. It's utterly ridiculous. I try to ignore them but sometimes fail.
Again, I apologize... Maybe it's time I take a break from this thread.....
Magnum isn't perfect. We are having growing pains. When I started 19 months ago we had 165 drivers. Now we have around 200. I'm willing to hang in there and see how we adjust. I like what I see so far. Others don't. I know some drivers that have been here for years aren't happy with some of the changes. But things change. With every company, with every profession. I hate change so I can understand why
One great thing about trucking... There are literally thousands of trucking jobs available right now. Don't like this one, find another that fits you better. No one will be hurt or mad, just do what's right for you.Last edited: Feb 14, 2016

And actually, they almost certainly have better things to do than poke their heads in here. In fact, I know they do. The only guy I know who looks in here every once in awhile is one of the recruiters, just to see what's being said about the company. It's his job after all and these threads on Magnum have been making his life easier with the generally good reviews. Seen a lot of new recruits sign up.
Given all that, people are people, and if one of the dispatchers does get a heads up to look in, and sees themselves referred to in a less than complementary way, how do you think they are going to take it?
Consider the following. Two drivers, one is pleasant on the phone, easy to get along with, and always willing to help out preloading trailers or whatever, total team player. The other, real grump, complains about the runs, the miles, the pay, the hometime, the equipment, the company, the dispatchers, the color of the sky, etc., and to top it all off, calls you a ###### in public for all the world to see.
If you were a dispatcher with two loads to cover, which one of those two guys are you going to give the cakewalk one stopper to San Antonio and which one are you going to send on the tight overnight five stop run in Chicago?
As the saying goes, ever notice the common thread in all your failed relationships is you?
btw, Commie China? Bit over the top there.Last edited: Feb 14, 2016

And now for something completely different,
As you no doubt know, Magnum is expanding out west. Word is lots of loads from Denver to Washington and Oregon, lots of loads from Minnesota to same. Looks like french fries headed back east and to Texas. Some good miles to be had and better scenery than the Jersey Turnpike.
Bad news, you will be running the Rockies (WV is worse, imho). Long, long grades. Don't get fooled by a 4%er. Note percentage of grade and distance. Stay in proper gear all the way to the bottom. Read all the signs, do as the signs say. Keep on top of the weather. Check the state DOT websites to see if chains are required and where the chain stations are. Top speed over the pass, 25 mph with chains, unchain at opposite chain station. Your call as a driver if you're even going to bother chaining or sit it out. Might be there awhile though, stock the frig and buy some movies if that's your call.
How to Chain (short version)
How to Chain (long version, better)

For those of you who've never done it, I suggest you throw one on in a parking lot and figure it out in nice warm Texas during the day beforehand rather than on the side of the road in cold, snowy Montana in the middle of the night.cdavis188, tallinthesaddle4life, HeavyHauler33 and 4 others Thank this. -
For what it's worth, when I talked to Paul and he asked how I had heard about Magnum, I mentioned I had read a lot of good things about the company on this site. The truckers report is actually in the drop down menu on the Magnum application for how you heard about them. All things being equal between Magnum and another company, I'm gonna go with Magnum because of this thread. Being able to converse and exchange tips with drivers of the same company is a luxery I don't have where I'm at now. I don't even work at Magnum yet and I've gotten some good information here that as a driver has helped with picks and drops I've made.

Thanks in advance! -
I love this company and usually other drivers are very helpful. I had a terrible training experience and people from here have helped me out. And you know who you are. And i seriously appreciate it. There are only a couple of things I don't care for but the Good way out weighs the Bad.
If I post something on here and someone doesn't agree with it it doesn't mean I'm wrong or right. I'll let people in the office tell me that and they have yet to do that. I'll never tell anyone else they need to change their ways either. I'm not a kid and I retired from the Corps and know all about following rules. 2 months driving might not mean a lot but after you figure out the system it's driving basically.
I would recommend this company to anyone new to driving or that has experience. And @Oor it's 36 for new drivers, not .38.
My few beefs are if I'm driving "after hours" I should be able to call someone and not leave a message and wonder if they are going to call me back. And yeah I'd volunteer for that if they payed me. Magnum wants to expand? I'm all about it. Give 24 hour driver support. Not an after hour line and hope you get a call back. If they don't do it because lack of night and weekend calls I get it. But if 1 driver needs to call, then to me it's worth having someone there. For a trailer, For an incident etc...We make them money.
Wifi in both yards would be amazinglike the whole yard lol. I'm sorry if I ruffled people's feathers or came off as arrogant. Because I'm not and that wasn't my intent. I lean towards common sense on a lot of things, a reason why I probably haven't been called one time about my way of handling business.
And I've never bad mouthed dispatch. And I never will. I'm not there and don't know what's going on. I rarely sit and I take a crap load or a short one and don't complain about it. It all works out in the end. I get home. I send the next regional dispatch a message the day prior to me getting there and I have a load. Shoot, sometimes they call me and ask me where I wanna go. You can't beat that.
Non hazmat drivers who have let their crap slip and don't want to get it again. And I've talked to a few. They should get basic .40. No bonuses. No extra. They are not holding up their end of the deal.HeavyHauler33 and mxpx148 Thank this. -
