I agree. But it's just been my experience for the roughly 8 months now doing reefer. I show up a day early and they either want $150 for an early unload or they make me wait 8-12 hours and I don't get detention because I was early.

Mcclanes, HEB, Lineage CS, MAINES, Anheuser Busch, Coca-Cola, the list goes on...

And sometimes it almost seems random.

I usually get to my appts 12+ hours early, sometimes 24+. Some places websites are great and they post their receiving hours, and if I'm in the envelope, I give it a shot. I've just so rarely got loaded/unloaded early I've stopped trying except for certain places I know will try to work me in.

One suggestion, get to know the customers who allow early unload/loads, I often call and ask before arriving.

LOL if I know that I will be on time I stopped arriving an hour early because you don't get detention until your appointment starts anyway, but you don't want to be late!

Thanks to @ncmickey being lost on the west coast somewhere, I got a NC load! :) Unload at 0400 tomorrow at McLanes in Sturtevant. Don't reload (15 mins away in Pleasant Prairie, WI) until Sunday morning (got a layover day out of it) and drop in Fargo yard Sunday night. Load in Grand Forks Monday morning going to Concord, NC for Thursday 0200 delivery. I like it when I have the whole week planned out! Thanks ncmickey!

    I
I always figure minimum 1/2 hour early because Bovine Scatology happens. Mcclanes, for instance, I shave that to 15 minutes, because I KNOW I'm going to be there 4 hours unless it's a particularly slow day.

The pickle place in NC will ALWAYS load me way early. Those guys are awesome. Same for Hennington in Grand Forks or Phila Macaroni or Cavendish. But ya, for the most part, I just don't bother. Sitting in enough docks for 12+ hours soured me on the whole thing.

But I get you about knowing customers.

Heading now to Mcclanes in Concord NC. Anyone have the skinny on that? My appt is for 3AM Monday. I will be there by 5pm Sunday tops.

    Pigbacon Thanks this.

SSB, thought about you the other day. Saw 2 Poly trucks broke down on the side of I-20 within about 2 miles of each other. Don't remember, now, exactly where they were, but weren't far from the Poly yard.

I have not been unloaded early, but normally get there around 10:30 pm to start my 10 so I can run in the morning...sort of depends on what you are doing next...

Thanks, but I never went anywhere. I just like to lurk in the shadows and read...I can learn more that way!;)

I figure I'll park less than 12 miles away, show up on time and go get my next load... You know how the books go. Mcclanes always wants you off the property ASAP so they can screw the next guy in line... I think I can actually get in early in Shelby.

Anyone know the average delivery days in Washington/Oregon? Seems to me they typically happen on a Friday. Asking because I need some weekdays off to do doctor/dentist stuff. A perfect delivery time for me would be a Monday with a Friday Pickup.
