Major carriers with terminals in NYC/Tri-State area?

Hi,

Just curious as I will be attending school soon and will most likely be starting out OTR with one of the major carriers. I live in Portland, OR right now but was considering relocating back to the east coast once I get started out in my new direction...merely for personal reasons and preferences Is this even an important detail to consider when choosing new company to work for, or can you more or less live anywhere you want regardless of where the terminals are located? Is it a major hassle to relocate to a different state aside from DMV/licensing concerns?

Silly questions, yes. Just some things I've never been totally clear on.
