    That would be an awful way to die. Can you imagine the thoughts going through their minds? ...... on both sides? I hope all involved in this senseless tragedy don’t sleep well for years.

    Man,Horry County Sheriffs legal department must be sweating bullets now. No way this is going to be a simple “sweep under the rug” type of deal. I can bet when this is resolved those two deputies will be deputies no longer.
    Negligence resulting in death or involuntary manslaughter is a very hard pill to swallow and those two deputies responsible (along with their superiors)will have to carry that for the rest of their lives.

    It will be the poster event for the “global climate change” crowd.

    //begin sarcasm
    This tragedy was entirely because of American’s excess consumption of resources. Furthermore, if Trump had not exited the Paris climate accord this storm would not have happened.

    This will be more of case of why didn’t they take an alternative route. There were NUMEROUS FORECASTS of rivers and streams cresting flood stage, some of which were already doing that 24-48 hours BEFORE Florence officially hit!

    Ironically,it’s law enforcement that didn’t do PROPER TRIP PLANNING (something we’re always lectured about) that resulted in a tragedy.

    I've been driving on these roads since the hurricane made landfall, and no amount of proper trip planning would have helped. The entire area from South of the Border to Wilmington was isolated. We tried every side road, and the ones that were not listed as closed on NC/SC DOT maps, as well as Google Maps, ended up having a barricade or traffic cone. We went into 2 foot high areas that just got deeper, and saw flooded bridges that looked like a waterfall was running horizontal. Another thing that made it bad, was that a lot of the officers assigned were not from the area, so they didn't really have a clue about routing or detours.

    Well in this case it was POOR JUDGEMENT and SHEER STUPIDITY!!The deputies DROVE AROUND A BARRICADE!
    There’s a reason why they say “Turn Around,Don’t Drown!”
    Deputies drove around barricade before 2 mental-health patients drowned, Horry sheriff says

    It's such a sad situation. Seems there is a question if the deputies did go around the barricade or not.

    Did they HAVE to be moved then? If yes, then maybe a helicopter would have been prudent given the entire region was under water.
