Major issues with a glider truck from harrison waterloo ia

    Detroit motor, i dont know about it was orig ordered for det. Ur posts give me some good info to try and help him out, thanks

    btw harrison refuses to consider this warranty issue

    In a glider, I'm guessing DDEC IV. They have a separate battery power harness. That makes it a slimer chance that it's in the harness at the ECM. It's probably a wiring issue in the dash holding power to the ket switch wire, sound like a lot of wire tracing.

    The power harness is on the rear of the ECM, it's the 5 wire plug. There should be 3 grounds and 2 battery powers. The key switch power is in the 30 pin OEM harness, pin B3 (If I remember right). You may have to trace that igntion wire back and see what else could be suppling it power with the key off.

  5. I agree check grounds, clean them up re-attach as needed.
    also was this glider driven in the winter? could have been exposed to the liquid de-icing agents some states use. its hell on wire connections.

    I think he needs to put his foot down at the dealer, I don't care if it was a glider or a new truck, if Harrison sold him a "finished" glider then the truck and parts ALL have a warranty, I would hope like hell that the dealer would warranty the work they charged for to put it together.

    Now, if he bought a glider and finished it himself, then yes, I can see an issue with the dealer being leery of warranty.

    While it is always a risk that someone could get a lemon truck, glider or not, occasionally. My glider I got from Harrison has 271,000 miles on it and is the best truck I have ever owned. Detroit 12.7 60 in it. Two winters primarily operated in the upper Midwest with all the deicing stuff, and nary a problem. I do complete frame washes frequently in the winter, so that might make a difference.

    As for the warranty thing, if it is chassis related wiring problem, then warranty is over at 1 yr / 100,000 miles. If it is engine, the factory rebuilt Detroits come with 3 yr / 300,000 warranty. I guess it depends on where the problem lies as to whether it is a warranty thing at this point. And electrical issues are the hardest to diagnose.

    water damage to ecm or a relay is my guess tell your buddy get a smoke detector if hes sleeping in truck

    Don't want to sound like I'm yanking on someone's chain but if the has a serial number, then take it to a FL dealer and ask for the build sheet to see what engine it was ordered with, they can tell you if it was a Detroit, Cummins or Cat very quickly.

    Also if it has the right engine in it, then it most likely is a plug and play situation. Most of these trucks seem to be "no wiring" needed type work to them.
     
  10. as well a CO.2 detector. ya can't smell that.

    I had an RV park next to me one time idling his vehicle. blowing his exhaust under my sleeper. sensor went off, woke me. so I moved.
