Hello all, Ive been out of trucking since 2008. I had to step down due to child support issues and the suspension of my license. I've got all that taken care off, and the suspension is older than 5 years now, and plus the carries ive spoken with dont even hold child support suspensions against you. A lot has changed, because no one would touch me in 2008 with the child support suspension.
Anyhow, Ive managed to keep my license in good standing, and Ive gotten offers from a few companies. Swift, Shcneider, and Witte Brothers are the main 3. Its really hard for me, because Ive been out of a truck for 9 years, and most companies wont even look at me until I get 6 months or a year recent driving under my belt. Its like Im a rookie all over again. Im fine with that, and willing to do so, since I'm given another chance in this industry.
My questions are what are some good companies for someone like me with rookie status? Typically in the midwest. I mean I know all the talk about Swift, Schnieder, and other student companies, but right now my choices are very few. All advice welcome, thanks in advance.

At the risk of sounding lik a broken record I'd do sni tanker. Tanks are awesome so much more respect that van. Pay is very good and paid for all down time and some companies pay for 34s (mine is $196). Learn a new skill and cut ur teeth with sni then move to smaller outfit and watch the cash stack up! Good luck and wish u the best brother
bottomdumpin and Alhb54 Thank this. -
I second the SNI recommendation. If you can get on with then and move over to tanker that would be the best financial option. Check and see if they run tanks or bulk in your area.
Yep, having experience in the past doesn't count these days. You have to play work up all over again, maybe even go through training.
@Chinatown might have a few other recommendations, based on your location. Upgrade your profile to show your location or post it in this thread. -

I like Schneider because of their tanker division mostly.
There may be choices other than those you listed. -
Thanks for the replies guys. Chinatown, I will update my profile. Lucy and Leptin I have been told by friends who are drivers that the best thing for me to do is add the doubles/triples, Hazmat, and tanker endorsements. I dont see why anyone wouldnt, since its simply on test. Well Hazmat is a little more, but still not extremely hard to obtain.

Hazmat/tanker endorsements lead to some good paying companies. Some dry van companies even want drivers to have tanker/hazmat endorsements due to large totes of liquids they haul at times.
Alhb54 Thanks this. -
Since you already have a CDL-A the updated training should go quickly. Which state are you in?
-
Most companies are saying brief training to refresh. Which Im fine with. -
Thull, Lepton1, Alhb54 and 1 other person Thank this.

Missouri is a good state for trucking, so shop around.
