They get to pick their loads, they get the cream while the company drivers get what is left over, They know where to run and probably have their next load before they unload, Just my thoughts, I don't know for sure. I hope this helps. Be safe out there your first 2 years will make or break you for the rest of your career.

Hmmm, make money with Werner as an O/O? Thats funny right there.
I turn down loads that pay what Werner pays to their "owner operators", far too cheap. Funny how they dont even advertise what they are paying (insulting) per mile these days.

You make a profit by generating more revenue than you have expenses. In order to do that you need to keep a close eye on both revenue and expenses. If you want to become an owner operator, you need to be saving money NOW!!! Save something out of every paycheck. Since you have time before you plan on buying a truck, you could start now by tracking revenue and expenses on the truck you currently drive. You can do that as simply as buying a composition book and writing everything down in the book. You could also make a spreadsheet and put everything into program and keep everything current. Or you could buy software specifically designed for the trucking business, such as Trucknpro. There are several versions available and they just released a version for the single truck owner operator who also does LTL freight. Regardless of how you keep track, you need to know exactly where you stand in any business. The trucking software will tell you your cost and profit on each load and for certain time periods. It can print out a profit and loss statement at any time and for any time period that you request. www.trucknpro.com. The software is the easiest to use and generate information about your business. There are also standard accounting programs, such as Quickbooks that can print out profit and loss statements.

Hey, Gman can you go into further detail, on generating more revenue. This can be a good topic to talk on. I personally wouldnt want to go that route. A single truck operator will wear his equipment down faster. It will work with multiple trucks.

Gman means haul better paying freight to raise your revenue not more miles for the same revenue.
