i get this question a lot, lets look at a few things shall we ?
i was talking to this one driver and he told me "you know you can buy your own truck a whole lot cheaper than Cr England right?"
i replied with ummm no i cant. I don't have a down payment, i didn't have the experience they wanted at the time.

i always say if you want to compare apples to apples lets do that.
you cant walk in to freighter and buy or lease a new truck with no money down, no experience in the industry "right outta school" and not having a credit score over 650.
o and one more thing stop with the you can get your own truck and go anywhere! if it were that easy everybody would do it. you still need to get the experience before you go out on your own.
how Manny people go into this industry and fail ? people go to school and get hired on to a company, go threw training get there own truck and can't make it for what ever reason they want to tell you other than they cant manage their business.
true owner operators are having a tough time with the economy like it is. and they are doing it with experience, capital and a broker.
Cr England lets you lease a truck right outta training no money down, no experience, and no credit check. give you all the tools to manage your business. they don't force you to do this it's a decision you make. it's not for everyone. how Manny busness start up and fail because of lack of business sense ?

    1) they do check your credit to lease a truck else ware.
    2) most places want experience to lease or buy a truck.
    3) they usually want a down payment.
    4) you can bring your own truck to Cr England, but it has to pass inspection. and cant be older than 5 years old

Why anyone just out of trucking school would want to lease or buy a truck is beyond me. In my humble opinion, one should drive AT LEAST one year before making the jump. Anything less then this your are, in my opinion, just asking to fail. (CR England's lease program used to require min of one year before they leased one to you, I know this for a fact as I had truck #90049 back about a dozen years ago when they started their program).

As a business man of more than 25 years, the one thing I do know, if your the owner, they have one less thing to hold over your head. Granted I still am trying to figure out how to own.

1998 (spring sometime) till Mar 2000. Walked in and handed them the keys and said goodbye. (Plus I already had another truck and job lined up. Heck I even used the rental car next company got me to leave the CRE yard). Plus I made sure my crap was in order before I left, already had house, car, credit cards etc. Just in case they tried to ding my credit for leaving early (1 year). In the end, never showed up on credit report, either good or bad. I just got sick of never being able to get home, and I live in Houston, so it was not like I lived/live in BF Egypt. Oh well, I went to another large company, and been there since, with no regrets. Even making a decent living (but I better say that quietly as some of the hollier then thou folks on here will say I cant make any money even though I know what is going in my bank acct on Fridays. But that is another topic and rant)

My husband is nearing the end of his "phase 1" training with CR England... all of this negative information is making me worry about his choice to go with them. He thought they were the 2nd best company, ya'll are making it sound like they're worse than working for Scrooge... he's been gone since mid November, right after our oldest daughter's 5th birthday, and it doesn't look like he gets to even think about making a swing anywhere NEAR home anytime soon. I keep telling him not to even think about leasing, don't think about being an o/o... and it looks like from your reports that i'm right in doing so. From what he says, their flocks are going to get even thicker. He's got the report that Swift is filing Bankrupt and that Arrow just shut it's doors out of the blue. They are being offered $100/recruit to recruit Arrow drivers at the truck stops.
As the person who is supposed to be responsible for all the finances, I have to ask this... he thinks that fuel is paid for by the company if you are a company driver. Is this the truth, or do they have some funky program? I'm really confused on all this stuff, as all I was told is "If I drive for them, they pay it and I don't have to." I can't seem to get hold of him and his phone has said out of service for 72 hours now... so I'm not just worried about costs. I know that him being a driver is going to be hard on family life... I'm not sure the kids understand this... but I do.
I have also heard some pretty hard up things about being an o/o lately. I've been hearing that o/o's aren't bringing home the bacon anymore, that their costs have seriously inflated and they basically bring home enough to still have to be on state aid to feed the flocks... is this true? When I have heard from him, it's been him saying he's considering it, but doesn't know yet... I need someone out there to just knock him upside the head and point out that his trainer is getting paid to bully him up on the leasing option...:biggrin_25513:

Not only dont lease but get hell away from CRE. You have kids he need to be at home raising his kids. Your never going to get ahead running otr, it just a count down to divorce. Get him home and keep him there you'll all be better off. Your kids are only young once, and hes going to miss it, and always regret it.

Too late if he is on his first trucking job. Have to stick it out for a while now. Too bad you didn't know about the forums before diving into it. I see you found the other thread and know that leasing is not an option. So....just pretend he is in the military on a 6 to 12 month deployment and start looking for jobs closer to home.
