Something to mention for someone new to LTL and looking for info to pick a company. Some will say that they are mostly the same... Some give and take in different areas.
One thing to watch out for is the offering of high hourly pay in city work. Some of the higher hourly paying companies dont offer overtime after 8 or 40. They offer it At 50 plus, or not at all.
One thing about linehaul I learned recently, which is ridiculous... there's a top LTL company out there that only pays $10 an hour for breakdown pay. I talked to 4 sources on that both current and former employees. I wont mention any companies because im not here to bash... just giving info so these questions can be part of a list for the interview. you are interviewing them the same as they are interviewing you. I remember more than a few times being on breakdown for more than 5 to 10 hours. This was sleeper team mind you, in the middle of nowhere. The company i was with, under contract paid all hours at top hourly rate. This is something that can not be compromised on as this is time away from your family and you are protecting the company's and customers assets on duty in control of the vehicle. So, only when you are rolling, making the company money are you worth the extra $25 an hour?

Then there is Healthcare, Pension vs 401K, Vacation accrual rates and top out, and seniority power.

These are just a few things at the top of my list. And as another fellow poster mentioned here, the fact of low seniority in a time of recession. Just in case a terminal is shut down, what are affected terminals displacement policies?

No not really. Just shorter miles so long time sleeping. I go to Greenwood instead of Lebanon TN. Right by Estes terminal. $2200 week.

It’s decent to live off of. I don’t make UPS $ so I had to get the 22 RST vs the High Country Silverado. One day I’m going to get there though.
