(Cincinnati) A 27-year-old Union Township man committed suicide by jumping into the path of a tractor-trailer on southbound Interstate 275 at the Beechmont Avenue overpass Friday morning, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
John F. Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:20 a.m. incident, said Sgt. Nelson Holden of the patrol's Batavia post.
"He was described as kneeling at the end of the retaining wall and then running directly into the path of the semi," the sergeant said.
The semi driver didn't have time to react.
"He saw him at the last minute and couldn't move because there was traffic to the right and traffic in the center lane as well," Holden said. "He tried to brake, but there was just no avoiding it."

That is horrible... I feel bad that tbe young man felt depressed and desperate enough to do sucn a thing.. but, ne really did a number on that driver.. he now has to live with that even though it was not his fault and there was nothing he could do...
My prayers and thoughts to the driver, his family and the young mans family who has to live with it as well... just sad.. -
That's hell of a way to go out. I've heard this story quite a few times actually, more common than people think. Suicide by truck.

Has to be tough on the driver.
Wonder how long he'll continue to drive... -
At one of my prior jobs, we had this happen to a fellow driver. A guy in dark clothes stepped in front of his truck as he was going beneath an unlit underpass at 2am. Didn't even have time to flinch...hit him at full highway speed.
Messed the driver up bad. He's now lost his family (they left) and he's got severe addiction and depression issues. A real shame, he was a decent guy. -
My prayers to the driver and his family and also to the family of the young man.
I believe in ( I can't say most) a lot of police department's if an officer shoot's someone and they die, they have to go to therapy. I know it was company policy at the ambulance service I worked for that if I child ( under 18 ) died, then all parties had to go to therapy.. or be suspended w/o pay until cleared my a mental health provider.
I think this is a case where the company or insurance aught to insist that the driver have counseling. And probably don't even cover it. It would be to all parties advantage to have the driver in a sane mental state.JMO -
Very sad story.Wonder if this man tried to reach out to somebody and it went ignored. My prayers go out to the driver, his family and the family of the deceased.

So sad, & so hard on a truck driver. Back in the 70's I had an incident like this happen to a friend going through Pine Bluff, AR. We were delivering cement to a ready-mix plant & I come up behind him after this happened. It was a bad deal & a bad sight.
He is now in his late 70's & I don't believe he ever got over that happening. -
