Man walking near loading dock hit, killed by truck
A pedestrian walking near a semitractor-trailer at an Albertson’s grocery store loading dock this morning was hit by the truck and killed as it pulled away, according to Metro Police.
The pedestrian, a Las Vegas man in his 50s, died at the scene in the 5900 block of West Tropicana Avenue, near Jones Boulevard, police said.
Officers were called about 9 a.m. when another truck driver spotted the man’s body, police said. The driver wasn’t aware he hit the man, police said.
The driver wasn’t believed to be impaired when the accident occurred or when he returned to the loading dock, police said. The incident remains under investigation.

I can't tell you how many times truck drivers would jump out and mindlessly walk in front of my truck when I was yard driving. The nose of my yard horse was about even with the doors on most otr rigs, so if they jumped out while I was turned around unhooking my lines, I often wouldn't see them as I jumped back in the seat and threw it in gear. And I was kind of a maniac back then, I usually had the brakes released and truck in gear before I even hit the seat.
Just one of those situations where both parties need to be more careful.Dave_in_AZ, Lepton1, G13Tomcat and 2 others Thank this. -
I recall a beautiful sunny day downtown Allentown proper in the Core. Finishing up halfway through a left turn across a humongous crosswalk. Saw a man walking backwards towards my drivers door. Stopped there, shut engine off, engaged parking brake, hung out window and said softly "Boo" when he was about to run into the door.
Yelled OMG after turning white and stumbled off on rubber legs thinking he was a dead man. 4 roadways worth of car drivers were smiling at me. Probably the only time I ever got thanked for totally and utterly wrecking the flow of traffic.Steel Dragon, bigguns and FalconsFan21 Thank this. -
Sad sad incident. More attention definitly needed from all parties. Just hoping this opens everyone's on the forums eyes a bit more and helps then avoid a similar incident
