Hey guys i was just wondering i never drove a manual car but i learned how to drive a manual truck in cdl school.

Im going to start working soon and will need to buy a car the thing is all the nice little cheap cars i want that im seeing on craigslist or at used car places are manual like theres a 95 kia with only 88,000 miles for like $1000 but its manual

My question is how hard will it be for me to use my truck manual skills in a regular car?

As far as I know a truck comes with a high idle, which allows you to just let off the clutch to start moving. In a car you also need to give it some gas as you let off the clutch or else you will stall out.

Not sure if you double clutch in your truck or not, but you don't have to do so in a manual transmission car. The only time I've ever driven manual transmission cars was when I was in tire sales, so maybe someone else will chime in with better advice.

You now know how to use a clutch....so you should have no problem learning how to use the clutch in the car. Take the car out for a test drive and see how you do.

You should be fine with a few minor changes. Manual cars do not require double clutching on the way up and the trans is always in sync with the engine speed so no need to rev the engine when down shifting... Basically clutch and shift...

I agree with the statement stated above about killing it if you don't add a bit of gas on the take off... When I was in CDL school I would drive the semi for a couple hours and once I switched to my manual car the very first thing I would do is kill it... LOL

OH, and there are normally only 4-5 speeds in a car vs 10+ on the big rig...

With a little time to adjust, you should not have any big issues.

When you first get the car take it to a big parking lot. Learn how to let off the clutch and into gear without giving it throttle, it will help you learn where it connects. Most people dont do that when their learning and end up giving to little/to much fuel.
