It is possible but quite a bit more difficult.

More or less the same principal. As mentioned above you have to give a little fuel when you lift off or you'll stall. Don't ever try and float gears in a car. It's possible but you will kill the synchronizers in the transmission pretty quickly as they aren't designed for that. Just push the clutch in, shift, and gently release the clutch. I find it'll shift a lot smoother if you let the RPM's drop a bit before releasing the clutch. Downshifting is the same as up shifting. Clutch in, move the stick to the lower gear and gently release the clutch. Personally to save wear on the clutch when downshifting I'll put the clutch in, move the stick to the lower gear, goose the throttle quickly to bring the revs up closer to the road speed, then let the clutch out. I just find it's smoother for me to do it that way.

Very similar to driving a 9 speed, lol. Actually drove an old Chevelle to work every day for almost 2 weeks with a bad throwout bearing, kill the engine at the stop light, start the car in gear, lol.

LOL I had to do that with an old Datsun pickup when the throttle cable stuck. Ground wire broke and the cable melted through the plastic tubing and stuck about 3/4 throttle. Did not want to blow up the motor.

I don't recommend floating in a car but it can be done. First car I drove was a 4 on the tree. Confusing.

Manual cars have synchronizers in the transmission which allow shifting into any gear at any speed or any rpm.
Much easier than shifting a big truck

I read somewhere that floating gears is not good for a synchronized transmission. I float gears in the big rigs but I always use the clutch in my car. When I have tried floating gears in my Saturn 5 speed it doesn't feel quite right. It feels forced.
