    Hi,
Im interested in purchasing a truck soon, but for now I am in the process of researching.
My question is, what is the advantages and disadvantages of having a automatic/Manual transmission? Also, which would you recommend, 13/15/18 spd, and why?

    Thank you

    "Lord,
Help me carry this heavy load,
Keep my trailer straight on this road,
    Lead, guide and direct,
    and oh, what the heck,
Keep diesel in the tank, money in the bank,
    and rubber side down. Amen!"

The manual will out last and be a more freindly to the wallet trans then the auto shift. Wrecker drivers love the new auto shift trucks they make a living off them these days. Its not the trany that has the problems its the electonics in them. Now as to which one i prefer the 13 but thats my personel favorite i have driven them all and they all wind up at the same place if you are heavy haul then the 15 or the 18 may be what you want but i love my old 13 speed road ranger.

Some companies figure they save enough fuel using auto-shift to pay off the expense of added cost and upkeep. I don't know about that. I do know that more gears at the higher speeds allows you to keep the engine in it's sweet spot at varying speeds. It also lets you pull grades at higher rpm with less lugging. I prefer a 13 direct, not overdrive, geared on the tall side.
