Hi everyone, I've been looking at the forum for a while now and I am taking my time on getting my claas A. Right now the away time from home does'nt bother me too much.I'm willing to pay my dues to get some experienceunder my belt.I guess the first two of many questions to come are: What happens when you are late with a load, does it get rejected and what if it is not your fault, ie. you did'nt get loaded on time, bad weather, breakdown etc.. And my next question is, please answer truthfully. How many of you guys are running over your Hrs of service and whos' fault would it be, yours or the dispatcher who said to get here by 4:00 Thurs p.m. Do they usually give you enough time to get there.

I give you folks alot of credit that have been doing this along time. I'll make sure to give you plenty of room on the road.
    Thanks, Southerntier

#1 that depends with my husband if its circumstances beyond his control then noones fault, weather for example, but ususally if something comes up like taking forever to be loaded etc. he jsut gets in otuch with the broker and goes from there. Most are pretty understanding and sometimes light fires under thier a##es to get them in gear. #2 technically it's ur fault due to the fact that its ur choice if u want to run like crazy just to be there at a certain time or u realistic know that it aint goin to work my hubbys boss likes to do this tol him sometimes. It sucks but legally you shouldnt but alot of guys do...Most of the time companies give you enough time and hey dont put urself at risk cuz if u get caught fudgin logs or over hours ur in trouble and can lose your job neway.

If you are late or know you will be late you always call it in and your company can make a new appointment, if not then just get it there when you can safely.

HOS is the law abide by it and nobody matters but you, when you mess up you pay for it every time, run legal stop your truck in the road and yell "its my break time" (joke). Nobody forces anything, just erase that word "forced" cause you will hear it all the time. Plan your trips the best you can, after awhile you will know bad traffic areas or places where delays usually occur, when you get a dispatch and it looks tight say something then. Sometimes you might go over your HOS due to weather or traffic, shippers/receivers, it happens but don't let it become a habit. Anyone who has driven under the HOS rules has most likely went over them cause they aren't perfect in every situation, and our situations change daily, each mile, and shippers/receivers eat most of our time up on our 14 hour rule.

Lumper is a person/persons that unload trailers at docks. They cost money, but the company pays for it.
