    Hello,

I am 21 years old and am interested in trucking as a career. In March of last year I was an idiot in college. I was arrested for underage drinking, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. I served a week in jail, paid my fine, and am off probation. I no longer drink and I don't smoke pot anymore.

I know of a great training program at the SouthWest Applied Technology College in Cedar City, Utah, which I was thinking about enrolling in. I also considered applying for Swift Trucking's program, but their policy is a 10-year wait on drug convictions, so they will not consider me. So, my question is this: if I completed my training in this program, would I have an inordinately difficult time finding employment in this field?

    Thanks.

Yeah, your gonna have a little bit of trouble. But since your in UT, Check out CR England in Salt Lake City they might take you. From what I have seen, they take ALMOST anybody. If they do take you. Don't do there lease program and stay there for a minimum a year before thinking of going anywhere else. Before you do go thru any class. I would call around and get prehired in writing. So you don't waste time and money. Good Luck

5 years from conviction date, is the rule of thumb, for commercial driving

Yeah it may be tough....At least with the bigger companies they will probably consider it a disqualifying conviction. Call around and ask the companies before you invest time and money in training.

AGREED! YOU should do your homework (sort of speaking) before you make any commitments.

I had possession charge in July 2004 so Im going through the same thing.
Your age is gonna be a factor also but the possession will be a bigger factor. You might check with TransAm though.
