Because I happen to know the signal it produces is cleaner than any "export" radio with a factory alignment. If 4 watts isn't enough for someone, It's a good over the counter choice without having to resort to an export and a golden screwdriver "tune". Without referring someone to a specific technician it's a good over the counter choice.

Wallet is irrelevant. Value is measured by performance to cost ratio regardless of your wallet. Stock Cobra 29 or 148 is best value for someone with limited funds.
