Well ####... something went wrong with my Connex today. I noticed the meter wasn't hardly moving when I turned the RF gain wide open and I can hardly hear anything on the talkback. So I hooked up my little Cobra 19DX IV to see what it sounded like. It sounded ok, or so I thought...

I had the Connex hooked to my Predator 10k and the Cobra hooked to a poorly tuned Wilson 2000 on the other mirror. I asked for a radio check on each radio.

A guy said the Cobra sounds crystal clear and the Connex makes me sound like a robot (no echo turned on). The receive on the Connex seems to be muddy now as well.

Any ideas? I've already got a metric #### ton of money in this radio but if it isn't something I can fix myself, I'm probably going to cut my losses and get something a little more hard core... Yaesu FT-991 work on 11 meters?

Weird that radio just got fine tune right?
I would send it back and ask him to check it out.

Hell, it took me a month just to get back home to retrieve it the last time. Add in the additional expense of shipping both ways again, plus whatever is wrong... = more money than I want to sink into a radio that doesn't really have everything I want.

It was friggin awesome while it lasted.

Could be something simple as well..Its electronics and some transistor or something that went poof..If its recieve i wouldnt be shocked its a final..Then again i dont know squat about a radio itself....Im only scratching the surface on antenna with my mfj 259 b....

When my Magnum starts having issues I'm just going to cut my losses and get an Anytone AT-6666.

You may be right about the final. I ran it for a few days with a fiberglass whip that broke. I only keyed it once before realizing it had broken but it was probably already too late.

I saw the post where he had a new RCI2970n4... the specs on that one look pretty good.

Something simple, any repairman could fix... just keep them from touching anything else, if you choose to save it.

If you choose the new RCI, with 37 pages in this thread... I'd ask for him to inscribe the hood with his soldering iron he must be famous after this thread. I'm tempted to try one after reading all this!
