marten has good equipment, they use it until they cant use it any more. they concider there drivers equipment. im a driver for them leaving soon. if you are going to work for them, dont get dispatched out of mondovi. avoid fleet3. watch your 14 hr clock. they like to make you run over it .

If you like working on perdeim, and losing all the big mile loads to rail, then go for it.
If you like sliding pay scales, then go for it.
If you like dealing with college kids (desk jockies) who have never seen the inside of a truck, let alone drive one, then go for it.
Search around here for other Marten threads, and read up. -
Wow, they just can't find enough ways to make you think you shouldn't work for them. As far as the drivers on here that stick up for Marten all i can say is if it's working for you then by all means that's great, but i'm of the very strong opinion that if you have a decent amount of experience and a good record your a fool to stay with them at this point.
I worked for then for 11.5 years and my issues mounted by the day the last 3 of them for the many reasons that are always mentioned these threads but the bottom line was my paychecks consistantly got smaller and the personal treatment became nonexistant and it was just to obvious that they didn't care that you did your job well without causing problems. The more time you had in the more endangered you were because they wanted you replaced with people who don't understand what's going on and just go along with the bs for a while until they leave and on to the next on they can get to go along with there crap, sounds alot like the practices of the many companies people are advised to avoid. It's just a shame because Marten was a great place to work 10 years ago and it's sad to see the veteran drivers that are still there hanging on to nothing and still saying it's not a bad place to be because they're to afraid to leave like they should. I found all of my problems with them ended when i left for this job, I'm sure others have found this out as well, believe me you can do better.rodzilla Thanks this. -
Very interesting reading! I had one truck on with them in the early eighties, just as Randy was taking over from Dad [dad was a very nice guy] in fact Randy was the one that put the Company decals on my truck. Two ways to get paid, mileage and pecentage. I ran grass seed to LA one time and found out later it paid 55 cents then I started learning about the Smurf ways! Deadheading 700 miles at a time, If you'd run percentage you got cheap freight, if you ran mileage you'd haul the higher freight. At one time before I learned the Smurf ways I was thinking of adding another truck even!
After reading all these posts, I see it hasn't changed.

Can anyone confirm what the deal is with all the ex-Knight employees are doing working for Marten now? The President of Marten was from Knight, along with what seems to be half of the office staff.
-
Yep it all went down hill when the guy from knight showed up. Hey what happened to that marten cheerleader that was always on here? Can't remember his handle.
-
yes, thats when shiit change
-
Dang....I'm waiting for the day I see that Knight announces they are buying Marten. Sad really, being an ex-BlueBird myself, having pride for that company when I was there.
