I know one driver on my same fleet, last week he only did 1,000 miles, 2 days worth of drivin, he put in for lay over pay for 5 days, explained it to the the office, next thing he knew he had a $500.00 PO. To turn in to get paid for sitting.

I arrived at a shipper way out in the middle of nowhere in colorado to find out the load didn't ship till the next day. They gave me $100 layover and $ 120 detention pay. I didn't expect the dention pay on top of the layover pay. :biggrin_255:

One of the "problems" is that these compensations exist...but you've got to remember to ask for them.

Pick up a rail load (either from shipper to railhead, or railhead to receiver)? $75
Drop a load that's been dropped in a drop yard near its destination? Hourly pay
Layover, detention, etc...It's all there, but the drivers have to look after it to make sure they get it.

Marten's not the place to be if you expect your employer to track all of those peripheral things on your behalf.

I can remember back in the late 90's when Marten was a good company to work for, well other than the head of the shop then, he who we called Col. Klink. Drivers talked to other drivers, we all got along, the miles where great and you made money. Even Randy would back you up if there was something wrong and you where right. Some of the DM's needed some work as far as learning how to talk to a person, like my first one, after orientation, went to meet her, and she handed you a sheet of paper, and the first sentence was, "I am your immediate supervisor, and you do not call me on the phone. Use your Qualcomm" That was all that it took for me. They even had one acct that every year they needed help, twice during the year, for about 4 weeks, P&G out of Lima. You were paid for 2500 miles every week, even tho you were lucky to see 1200. The O/O's loved it. And home every week. You would work one day, return to the yard, then be off until the next cycle. I used to get at least one a week, Lima to Tipp City. Picked it up in the afternoon, delivered the next morning, back to Lima, and off that night. Even one time had steer tires replaced, and instead of breaking them down and putting the new ones back on my polished rims, they placed dirty old acid rims on the truck. Complained, would not fix, found Randy, told him, came out to the shop, saw my truck, all the rims and tanks where polished, made them find my rims and replace them. That was the days. Do not know what happened. I did hear that Randy was getting tired of it, and just wanted to sell out, but his sis would not let him. He was still getting over the death of his Father. Even still had the old KW parked there, and his bikes in the shed, and party, did we party when in Mondovi for a weekend. The locals would find you at the hotel bar, and take you into town to the real good bars, and have some fun.

i gotta say, that rail excuse is a bunch of bull!!! i see why i dont see them pick up meats from places out in the midwest....

hell it takes a train in chicago where i see alot of those marten trailers and now starting to see central transport on piggy backs along i-90 almost a day just to move from one point to the city to another... i mean have you seen the rail network in chicago??? and i thought where I-90, I-94, I-290, and I-55 meet was a cluster!!

those loads must not be in a real true rush to get there, i always thought to have it to your customer as soon as possible and i know they aint coming off no ships on the East Coast compared to the dry containers... but im sure if someone correct me if im wrong

if i can't drop a load in a drop yard or take it to del a day early, my dispatcher is good about giving me the layover pay.
