Just a quick one here. I live in mass and want to upgrade my class D license to a class C. The requirements listed online contradict themselves. According to one page, so long as the endorsements I take do not require a road test, I do not have to take one. On another page it says for your first CDL you need a road test. I always thought that the class C was a written test. Can some one clarify this if possible? Thanks. -Joe

I just looked it up.It's for transporting 16 or more people or placarded hasmat with a vehicle with less than 26,001 pounds. All endorsements, air brakes, passenger, tanker, hasmat, school bus, requires a written test.Air brakes, passenger and school bus endorsements require a road test.

I think I might be all set. I only want the hazmat endorsement. The description of a class C is vague. Basically less the 2600 lbs. I recently got laid off. I want the class C so I can haul drums [all I know is hazmat stuff]. I don't need air breaks. This can be done with a small cube van. If I have too, I will get my class B. But, its very hard in MA to pass the road test. Thanks for quick reply's, I appreciate it.
