i dont know anything about volvo. maybe alot of their parts are vin specific? that is crazy to me. just goes to show how much of a monopoly these manufacturers are trying to get over the repair and parts market... thats why i refuse to give them my money if i dont have to. even if it means paying more elsewhere.

Some of the Volvo dealers have a practice of not giving part numbers over the phone. I understand they don't want you to get parts elsewhere, but it's kind of petty.

It's quite the opposite, outside of Cummins engine a lot of parts are Volvo vin specific, cab, drive line, e.t.c.
I have a repair shop discount level, 90% of parts I get are cheaper than anywhere else, even online or independent.

Plus it makes life a lot easier buying parts based on vin or engine serial number, without taking stuff apart to find the correct part number.

but just think, its only going to get worse.. the manufacturers would love nothing more than everything to be in house. ...this is why right to repair is so important.. but how many guys will actually fight for it? the farmers are slowly working on taking the ######## at john deere down... same thing needs to happen in trucking and in the car/truck market... there needs to be universal access to all part numbers and part suppliers

Even when it comes to engine. I literally go to Volvo, order my Cummins parts there, they drive to Cummins dealer 15 minutes away and bring me my stuff for 30-40% cheaper vs what Cummins would have sold me direct. For example engine harness I got for like $550, vs $850 at Cummins and $750 anywhere online

maybe worse? idk ive never worked on a volvo. atleast paccar has access to parts OEM and aftermarket from every independent part supplier in the country it seems like. and if you cant find it, theres most likely one sitting in a junkyard somewhere... ive heard and read from guys on here , trying to find parts for volvo and mack is next to impossible outside of the dealer network.... which is bad for everyone involved other than the manufacturer

They create parts specific to your truck, same as cars. Not a lot of parts can be interchanged between a Ford and a BMW

No that big of a deal to me. I would rather buy parts that I know are gonna be good and work instead of hoping for the best. A lot of knockoff parts are junk with a few that are good or better than OEM parts.
