I'm going to a local community college CDL program here in Kentucky and strongly considering Maverick. Mostly because of the reported first year earnings potential that I read about on this forum, and overall good reports about the company, hometime, equipment, so on and so forth.

Hoping for some reports from Kentucky domeciled Maverick drivers, or perhaps someone in close contact with a Kentucky driver. Whatever someone could tell me, hometime, miles, quirks particular to Kentucky, whatever.

I am well aware of local outifts here in Ky and appreciate being steered toward local carriers, but I started this thread to discuss Maverick as it pertains to a Kentucky domeciled driver, and I would like to keep it focused on that, thanks. On that note, I do not want to discuss my chosen route of obtaining a CDL either.

Kentucky should be a great location for a Maverick driver. I either get routed through KY or have a pick up or delivery there almost every week.
next question, are you a good fit for flatbed, and more specificity maverick?

Well, the physical activity shouldn't be too much of a problem. I've been working as a material handler/forklift driver for over a year in a mill. I spend most of my night fooling with 1500kg steel coils that must be cut out of "tuna cans" and then loaded onto machinery. I also drive a tow motor pulling 18ft wagons weighing upwards of 5000kg, but you can only pull them so far in the mill before you have to unhook them and physically manuever them into work areas. During this last summer, temps in the mill were in excess of 130F daily. Bottled water and Gatorade become your best friends.

Four times a week I have to load a 53ft box with wagons and coils, but I also have to stack skids on top of the wagons which requires load securement equipment and large straps. It's quite a sight really, I would post pictures but I'm sure the company wouldnt like it too much.

I'm pretty clean cut, no dope, I dont miss work, not afraid of hard work, and most of the time I am pretty humble. I dont usually talk much, just keep my head down and focus on doing a good job. I've been offered management 3 times in 2 divisons with this company but I've turned it down for various reasons.

At the moment, my driving record is clean. No accidents, tickets, or violations for 5 years. No DUI's, ever. I'm a retired truckers son, and really, this has been a long time coming for me. Whether its with Maverick or not, I'll be OTR sometime before summer, hopefully. But I like what I read about them, just havent seen too much directly concerning KY drivers. I see Maverick trucks quite often when I go visit my folks up near Chicago, but not here in Central KY too much. Thank you for your input seawheeler, it is greatly appreciated. Its good news to hear you are traveling through the Bluegrass quite often.

I don't live in Kentucky but a good friend of mine does. I'll put it this way I call him the golden child. I think he misses two weekends a year on not getting home.

Golden Child may be an understatement, Sewerman! LOL! :biggrin_2559: Baskt_Case, I live in Ohio just N of Dayton, so not too far from the Bluegrass. I have a good friend that's also in my division with Maverick, and my trainer-Golden Child- lives there too. They get home regularly. Maverick trucks are always buzzing thru KY Man! I am on 71S from Cincinnati to Louisville and then down 65 to TN, that I could almost drive it blindfolded. You would be in a great area, right smack dab in the entire Maverick operating area.

I think I drove that once. Is it really curvy, hilly, and dark as **** cause there aren't any lights?

I used to run Louisville to Cincinnati nightly for almost a year with a courier outfit. I dont remember it being very curvy, maybe around the state line. Biggest thing that sticks out in my mind was all the deer that live in the median through there. Theres a SUPER wide median through a particular stretch and it is HEAVILY populated with deer. Or was, I havent been through there in about 8 years now.

This is all great news so far. I'm about 30 min's from I-65.

Basket-case, looks like you would do well with Maverick. You definitely know how to work hard! That sounds like one hard ##### job you have.
The last thing I would as is have you considered what this job will do to your family situation? This is the number one reason people quit OTR, even though we get home waaaaay more than most companies it's still not enough for a lot of folks.
If the family thing will work out I think you would do well at Maverick and the would love to have you. Tell them Seawheeler said so LOL.

I was with them for a couple of years, and did well. With a good fleet manager, I rarely missed a weekend home.
most weekends being Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, miles averaging around 2100 this time of year to 2700 during the busier time of the year.

sewerman, Baskt_Case and jxu417 Thank this.
