True, but these places are getting slim to none. Some you can arrive 1 hour prior to and Lord help you if you need to do your log book before you roll, because some get their freight then they want you off the property. The older I get the less I like sleeping at a cons or shipper. I want to get up when I want and not have some fool banging on my door 4 hours before my 10 is up... we will unload you now.. your empty now; so leave our lot... and I like to have coffee and a rest room available when I wake up...:biggrin_25520:

I am exactly the same way.
I will sleep at shippers/ receivers sometimes. But would much rather not.
Also it depends on who the shipper/ receiver is.
The places that have allot of trucks in and out, are the ones with the most rules about sleeping on there property. They get too many trucks in there for 10 hours they will run out of space to park ones that need to be there for load and unloading.
Smaller company's usually do not mind at all if drivers are there. It is the big boys moving the most freight (at the cheapest rates) that complain.

    Latest update.

After dropping his load off in Oklahoma, Redcoat got a dispatch to head down to Ft. Smith, AR (no surprise there) to pick up a load of steel headed to Morristown, TN due on Monday afternoon. So that took him by my mom's house (sort of) and he went there to take a real bath and wash his clothes.

The loading situation in Ft. Smith sounds like a real circle jerk. He got there around 1900 Thursday almost out of hours but his load time was 2300. So he hung around and hung around waiting for them to call him on the CB but nothing ever came. That is frustrating because he was hungry and didn't have any food in the truck. He couldn't go to the truck stop to take a shower or eat because he didn't want to miss his call.

They finally got him loaded around 1000 the next morning. Redcoat wants to know why they bother making appointment times there if they aren't going to stick to them? He also says the attitudes of the people who work there are the worst he's dealt with out of all Maverick's accounts. Reminds him of Covenant shippers/receivers.

So at the moment, Redcoat is chillin' at the mother-in-law's house. He has until Monday afternoon to get his load to Morristown. He hasn't decided if he's going to leave Sunday or early Monday morning. Depends on how he feels.

As far as the discussion about where to spend the night, Redcoat actually prefers rest areas. He only spends the night at Pilots if he want to get a shower. Usually he'll try to find a rest area that's within 50 miles or so of the con if he can.

In all the months he's been driving now, he hasn't had much interruption of his sleep by the truck stop undead. But when he was in this mom & pop truck stop just past West Memphis, he was awakened twice. The first guy wanted to sell him something and the second was a lot lizard who mistook his open window for an invitation. So he closed his windows and after that they left him alone. By then he couldn't get back to sleep so all the next day he felt like crap.

That's all my news. Stay tuned.

Thats 30 miles from my house...where he is headed is just past Arvin Meritor. He'll deliver to the little shop down in the holler on the left.

The guy that owns the trucking company across the street (East Tennessee Truck Lines) is an old friend of mine...I drove for him for a while.

The guys there at MCR where he'll deliver are great...very nice people.

The simple explanation for Ft. Smith is that they just can't keep up...not Maverick, I'm referring to MacSteel.

Appointment times i would say are made by the customer because they know approx how many trucks they can load/unload in lets say an hour so they try not to overbook to reduce or eliminate detention claims. In a perfect world, drivers stick to their appointment times and are not early or late, cranes dont break down, forklifts dont either, traffic jams and accidents dont make drivers late, etc. and frustrated steel workers dont mind working even though they make less money actually working rather than on unemployment and shop pay as was explained to me by an employee at Columbus coatings in columbus, ohio.

He was rather frustrated or appeared to be. I commented it must be really frustrating to be laid off then called back to work for a big order (i had heard him talking with another employee) He said it was because he made more money at home with his unemployment and shop pay from the union than he did actually working.

I've unfortunately had to sleep in some areas that I'd rather not. I have a sign I put in the window...." I dont want my rims polished. I dont want to buy anything you have to sell. I need sleep so please do not disturb. " Of course the guy that likes to idle in 65 degree weather hauling a reefer that'd wake the dead usually doesn't bother to read it before he parks beside me. lol.

"likes to idle in 65 degree weather"....You forgot to mention he's idling at 2300 rpm with an 80 decibel air dryer spitting every 10 seconds. ( and that dang fan clutch).
