Hey Jack welcome to my thread. Redcoat says "Howdy" since he's headed to Houston he'll speak the lingo. Redcoat hails from northern UK, specifically, Halifax in West Yorkshire. He's never been in the military. I'M the one that is the Gulf War vet so that's my ribbon that I earned as an engineer on C-5's flying stuff into Kuwait.

When I read your comment to him his response was "STAY IN THE BOAT BUSINESS!!!" However, I pointed out that with the economy like it is, the boat business probably isn't doing so well these days. He allowed that was probably the case. DO NOT go to Covenant if you can help it. Hopefully you have been here in the States long enough and have worked somewhere long enough that you have established a work history and you have had your US license for a year. If so, then you should check out Melton or TMC for flatbed outfits as they are pretty decent to start with. I don't think Maverick is currently hiring students and I KNOW they don't hire out of Florida otherwise I would highly recommend them.

If you haven't had your US license for any length of time or you have no work history, then you are officially jammed up and Covenant may be your only option. Stick it out for a year and then get the heck out unless you can get a Walmart dedicated route like our friend, Rocks, did. She is happy with it as the people in charge of that account seem to care about their drivers more so than the ones in charge of the students and teams. The only thing is the pay is TERRIBLE which is why most people leave.

I will send you a personal message with our contact information. Redcoat is always happy to talk to a fellow Brit.

For now, Redcoat is chillin' at the Flying J in Gulfport. He'll probably leave around 0500 Monday morning to make it the rest of the way to Houston. Too bad he doesn't gamble. He might have had a bit of fun at the casinos.

    Stay tuned.

I hope Redcoat wasn't in TN today. There was a Maverick truck that was making a turn and just stopped. I didn't bother to ask if he needed help as he was packing up his triangles. He looked pretty forlorned! :biggrin_25525:

Actually half way around the corner and just stopped.

Must be what his Qualcom told him to do. A very tight corner for a spread axle. He was on a truck route, turning where the signs told him to.

Wasn't Redcoat. Last night he was resetting in Mississippi. He's just arrived this morning at the con in Houston to drop his load. I had a look at it on Google. The place is right in the middle of a trailer park.

    Latest update.

Never trust mud puddles. Yesterday, Redcoat missed his turn to get to the con in Houston and pulled into a gravel parking lot to turn around. There was a big puddle there and when he went through it, it almost jerked his arm out of his shoulder. He said there had to be a 2-foot hole there. He got out and inspected his truck but everything seemed to be OK.

He gets turned around, makes it back to the con and then waits HOURS to get unloaded. I forgot to ask him how many hours of detention pay he figures he made. When he finally got unloaded, he got his next dispatch to pick up a load at the Alcoa plant in Lake Charles, LA headed to somewhere in PA. He deadheaded the 130 miles to Lake Charles and spent the night at a tiny Pilot off I-10 less than 10 miles from the plant which is located in the middle of nowhere. Reminded him of some of the Georgia Pacific plants he went to when he was with Covenant.

Anyway, another good run -- 1200 miles.

Before he left Houston, he put in the QC request for home time in Garner this weekend. Speaking of which, since we are newbies to Maverick, how do they do the holidays? Do they try to get all their drivers home for Thanksgiving and Christmas?

    Stay tuned.

Yeah, but being home for Thanksgiving could mean arriving anytime from Wed night to Thurs noon, and having to leave out anytime from Thurs 6 pm to Fri morning. Ya gotta' love those Friday after Thanksgiving deliveries 500 miles away. :biggrin_25513:
