I had one student that never went to cdl school. He studied the books, passed all the written exams and then rented a truck and trailer to take the road test. It only took him two attempts to pass the road test and he had his class a cdl. When I got him he said it was the first time he drove a semi with a sleeper on it or with a load on. He is now a professional driver and doing well.

That's pretty crazy. I've been looking at trucking really hard here lately but can't justify getting stuck with a company for a year making less money than I am now. Or paying 8 grand at the school in Benton/bryant area. What would be the easiest way from me to get my cdl

@Trainer Dan - Do you know what the requirements are to become a trainer with Mav? I'm an experienced trainer from two other companies, thats why I'm asking. My stint here in Afghanistan is over next week; so i'm looking at getting back into training students again. Pullin tanker here is somewhat boring.. Some companies just want you do to the 90 days, then you go through their 4day course for certification. Is it the same at Mav? Thank-you!

    Hey Trainer Dan,

What kind of physical agility test does Maverick require?

Well, we have Reefer ( we call it TCD Temp Controlled Division) but no Dry Van Division, to expand on your point.

I am an instructor at maverick, you do not need recent experience. You will just have to go with a trainer like me. All you need is a class a cdl and be able to pass dot physical and live in the hiring area. Good luck.

To be a trainer at maverick you have to be a driver here for at least one year with no accidents, get the fuel bonus and deliver your loads on time with no damages. You must then wait for them to have a class for trainers called MIT (maverick instructor training) which they do 2-3 times a year. Also you must pass short interview.

    Pilot1 Thanks this.

Basic range of motion and agility/lifting skills. The two hardest of these are lifting 120lbs to chest height and climbing on top of a six ft high wooden box with two tarps rolled up that you can use as a step to help boost yourself up.

The easiest way to get a cdl would be to just go to school and get it. Maverick does reimburse you for your school tuition up to three thousand dollars. The other way would be to get the permit on your own and rent a truck to do the driving test. I think few are able to pull that off but it is possible. I went to a school and had a good experience and it was extremely easy. Good luck.

Thank-you for the info Dan..Could you elaborate on the Glass Div? Pro's & Con's? Who is getting the most miles right now? All of my experience is with Reefer, so glass would be new to me. Reefer div. would'nt be out of the question; however I think glass poses a challenge, and the money is great too!

    Thank-you; sir!
