I think someone told me that Maverick uses electronic logs. If that is true, how are they to use? I have never even seen an electronic log system. In situations where you have to wait forever to get loaded or unloaded, I guess there is no way to "adjust" the logs to get your driving time back huh?
I dont mind running legal or anything like that so dont get me wrong, I may just have a false impression that electronic logs cut some of your potential to earn money due to it automatically tracking everything the truck is doing.
What happens if I go over my drive time by 10 minutes so I can get to the nearest truck stop to park? Do I get a black mark on my company record or something?

You're going to love elogs,NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nope, you the driver cannot adjust elogs I don't think.Might as well force yourself to like it.Almost every company has elogs.
-
On my elog system I can adjust everything but the drive line. You go over your drive time and it shows. You can make a note and try to use the emergency 2 hr to get to a safe haven, but it better be a valid one. I like using the elog compared to paper. Done are my days of re writing to make a buck.
-
So what happens if you go over? I dont mind trying to stop early but lets say I got 30 mins left and the truck stop I pulled into is full and its 45 mins to the next one. Do yall just pull on a ramp and sleep or what? LOL
-
You go over and it a violation. I usually have a mental list going of the places I like to park a few hours before I run out of time. My system won't change to the drive line until I move 7/10 ths of a mile. Can't find a spot, just keep on circling. Every half mile I set the brakes for 5 minutes to reset the 7/10 ths.

Parking on ramps is not a good idea either. A lot of states it is illegal.
-
So if you have a "violation" then what? Do the police come track your truck and give you a ticket? Hate to sound stupid but what happens? What do you do if you get pulled over on the road, or at the scales. Can you disconnect the elog and take it in to show them or something?
Told you I have never used them lol! -
No the cops don't come. Your companies log department will probably get in contact with you. If you happen to get pulled over and get an inspection you can show them the Qualcomm. The cord is long enough to get it out the window. If the DOT catches you with the violation then you get to deal with them. I have never had a log violation so I am not sure what happens. Probably a fine.

At Maverick, you will not get into trouble with the company as long as you communicate your move to the company. However, it is still a violation if DOT checks.
And contrary to popular belief, that extra 2 hour window is not always available to you, and under FMCSA rules, being forced to move off of a customers property does not fall under that exemption. That extra time can only be used if you have time left on your 14 hour clock, and it must be due to adverse driving conditions as defined in part 395.2. The full text is below:
(b) Driving conditions -(1)Adverse driving conditions. Except as provided in paragraph (h)(2) of this section, a driver who encounters adverse driving conditions, as defined in §395.2, and cannot, because of those conditions, safely complete the run within the maximum driving time permitted by §§395.3(a) or 395.5(a) may drive and be permitted or required to drive a commercial motor vehicle for not more than 2 additional hours beyond the maximum time allowed under §§395.3(a) or 395.5(a) to complete that run or to reach a place offering safety for the occupants of the commercial motor vehicle and security for the commercial motor vehicle and its cargo.
And the definition of adverse conditions:
Adverse driving conditions means snow, sleet, fog, other adverse weather conditions, a highway covered with snow or ice, or unusual road and traffic conditions, none of which were apparent on the basis of information known to the person dispatching the run at the time it was begun.
Or, this is in laymans terms on the FMCSA HOS guide on their site:
Adverse driving conditions
Up to 2 additional hours of driving time
Additional driving time must fall within 14-hour driving window
Weather or traffic condition must be unknown at start of run
Per §395.1(b)(1) §395.2
Either way, if someone really wanted to go after you about it, being held up at a customer and then being forced to leave does not fall under these definitions. And even if you could somehow get around that, that 2 hour leeway is not available under ANY circumstances if you're 14 hour clock is gone.
But, I can pretty much guarantee you're going to have to do it eventually. There are ways to keep from tripping the logs, which I would be happy to tell you in a PM, but be advised that doing that is still running illegally if you get caught.
But, you won't get into trouble with the company as long as you keep in touch with them. -
