Maverick is top notch in the flatbed division especially for company drivers. You should be able to average at least 2300/wk in miles unless you're stoppin at the truckstops too much or trashin around watchin tv. I spent 10yrs there and Id still be there if I was a company driver lol. Alas I was a independent contractor aka lease driver. We had a couple differences and I went to Prime. Primes a good company,I like it here but for someone looking to learn the best way to flatbed Id go with Maverick. Primes flatbed training is sorely lacking. Other than that I run decent here . If you need a cdl then I highly recommend Primes training program. Its the best out there. The feds came to Orime when they started looking into minimum training standards (something they are going to finally be implementing soon I hear). To me that says we are doing something right in the training department. You wont just be a steering wheel holding 14day wonder once your done here. You will have thousands of miles under your belt and be confident in what you are doing.

I need to go to a company school for my CDL and Roehl gave me a pre hire and will pay for my training. They have a flatbed fleet as well. I wonder what I will need to switch to Maverick after I have some experience and my CDL? Also, what kind of pay per mile do they offer and what is average bonus in real life?

All you need is a CDL to join Maverick. No school required. You'll have to go with a trainer for a few weeks if you have less than 6 months experience OTR. Also, be aware that when you come here, you're going to have to relearn load securement all over again - Maverick wants it done THEIR way, and they will not budge on this.

Starting pay rates are different for each division. Flatbed starts at .33, TCD at .35, and glass starts at .40. You get a .03 raise at 3 months after going solo, another .03 after 6 months going solo, and then .01 at 1 year, and then another cent per year after that until you top out.

The new bonus system that just began grades drives on several different aspects, such as miles per day, out of route, idle time, fuel mileage, etc. and calculates the totals on a scorecard. This determines your bonus. If you get in the top tier, you'll be paid an extra .06 per mile you drive, paid out every week on your check after the quarter in which the data is collected.

So, in theory, if you come to Maverick flatbed division, after one year of going solo and assuming you hit the top tier bonus pay, you'll be making .46 per mile each week. And that is one hell of a salary for a brand new driver.

Decided to go with Roehl. The RDTC training program is great so far. Very fast paced and great instructors.
