I am considering a career in trucking. I do not have a CDL so I would have to attend a CDL School. The two trucking companies I'm looking at are Maverick and Prime. I do like the amount of training that Prime provides but I am wanting to do Flat bedding and Prime will only start a new driver on a Reefer. My only concerns with Maverick is having enough miles. I was wondering if any experienced drivers who are familiar with either of these companies would chime in and make my decision a little easier.
Thanks
Maverick or Prime

Have you really discussed this type of career with your family? Truck driving is a lifestyle not so much a career. Long hours ,away from home for long period of time, and living on the road. If so prime will break you if you are not a business person. Prime gives you a lot of tools to run a business. Maverick is a good company and treats the drivers with respect..
you will not make a lot of money at first but if you learn the ropes you will make a living.Rigbuilder Thanks this. -
Maverick has an extensive training program also and good equipment. Never thought to highly of Prime, they've had to many drivers get into trouble. I don't think Primes CSA score is very good. If it's flatbed you want then go flatbed, just know that flatbed is very hard work. Boyd Bro's, TMC, BTC, are all fine flatbed companies that take students also.

i have never worked for either, but my pick would be Maverick from what i've seen over the years

Flatbed tries to get you home weekends.

I drive for Maverick and would definitely recommend Maverick to Prime. Orientation/Training pay is 550$ a week. I get about 2800 miles a week but I am in the glass division. Maverick is very family oriented and will treat you good and get you home when you want/need to be there. They also have good equipment and an excellent training program. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions.

Also just saw that you said you were single. I bring my wife with me 24/7 and we stay out 3-4 months at a time. We average about 900-1200 mile weekend runs with Monday delivery but Maverick won't pay for you anything less than 800 miles. So say you got a 500 mile run for the weekend, you'd get paid for 800 automatically unless you're home.

Not sure where you live but Maverick has been doing a great job getting me home every weekend. Miles have been consistant at 2,000+ every week. It is hard work and long days in flatbed but nothing bad to say about Maverick...
