Hey everyone, need a little help in the info department. In School and have been getting pre hires. At first I said noooooooo wayyyyyy to even thinking about flatbed. Untill I came to realize if I wanted to actually make a living as a newbie I should consider it. I'm 51 but most people peg me at 40. A little over weight (working on that) but have the body type of a bigger woman except for the height of 5'4". Never been skinny and always strong as can be. Best way to put it I guess was at 12 years old my pediatricition ask me if I ever considered becomeing a weight lifter, because he said I had the perfect muscle structure for it. My answer was NO. LOL. I have lost alot of tone being unemployed for the last 6 months. And a little worried about those big ol tarps everyone keeps talking about. also please, any info on Mavericks Glass division, that is where i would be put because I live in north east tn. Thanks in advance to all.

I see alot women flatbedder these day's,shippers will usually put the tarps on top of the load for you.If you like physical work flatbed could be for you.keep that "I can do it" attitude and you will be fine. Good Luck.

You won't have any problems with flatbed. Go for it!
When I was flatbedding, one of the drivers wife rode with him; she was about 5'3" and weighed about 115 lbs. She could tarp and secure a load as good as any of us & she wasn't even a driver; just rode with her husband.

I would suggest finding someone that does it and try working with them just tarping the load if you are in the north east find a lumber yard or some place that tarps loads . I will tell you i am looking into Maverick and i see the double drop trailer and a note from a driver said it took 5 hours to tarp i don't doubt it
I do flat bed and think i could do it quicker with practice i never tarp a load of glass on double drop regular flat i have and that took less couple of hours all total . You tarp in all kinds of weather wind the worst nothing like rolling tarp over load and wind blows it off re roll on ground to put back on load . rain ,snow
I am doing P+D rite now and want to get back to flat . Plenty of woman do it

Wideglide13, well Maverick claims to have te best tarping program around. From what I understand you go to Little Rock first and then you go to NC to learn the glass end of it.

Check out the Maverick section under "Company DAC Reports". Most of us will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Maverick will train you before you go out on your own, so you will know what expect.

I think you are missing my point . The idea is to see before you go to training if you will like or want to do it any one can b trained to do it it 's not rocket science. But it is tough dirty very dirty job . I could not get a recruiter on the phone and did not want to leave # . A driver told me it is all done at Little Rock now .. and also told me they are doing sleep apnea studies on heavier drivers if that's the case i wont be going there .
