First of all...if anyone works for TMC and Maverick...i would like a number to contact to speak more in a serious level...

But...i'm into flatbed...and i just want to make sure i pick the best company...i really don't know much about companies because in still in school...only seen a TMC recruiter...i called Maverick they said 30 days before i graduate send my application in...but...how do these companies match up?...truck wise...i rather go with TMC...but pay wise...Mavericks .35 cent a mile looks pretty good...but how do they stack up...

I doubt that anyone works for both TMC and Maverick. :biggrin_25525: Just teasing there.

Personally I would choose TMC over Maverick since I work for TMC. I have been with TMC for two years and am very happy with TMC. Yes TMC has some quirks and problems but I have been treated fairly, and I had an excellent Fleet Manager. I finally did meet one driver that hated my FM, but that same driver went through four other fleet managers in the course of a year, so I guess I won't worry about his opinion.

I have seen people post from both sides that they worked for one company and then switched to the other and liked one better than the other. I think it depends a lot on what you expect your company to do for you and how you think they should work. I learned as much as I could about TMC before making the decision and found that while a lot of the things that drivers complain about on the surface seem to hold water, there is almost always a higher motive that makes sense. You will see drivers complain that they sometimes unloaded at point A and were leaving empty to pick up a load 100 miles away at point B when they met another TMC driver that unloaded 3 miles from point B and bounced empty 100 miles to get to point A. Now on the surface that makes the company look incompetent, but I take that as a sign that TMC will spend money moving empty trucks around in order to put the right load on the right truck. In other words TMC first considers weather or not you will get home for the weekend, and if you are making a fair amount of money before assigning loads. They are willing to spend a few hundred dollars in fuel to ensure that the load you are getting is one that you can do and makes sense for you. TMC does not just put profit first and screw the driver, but they honeslty try to treat drivers well. Now I admit that there are inherent flaws with any enforced fairness, but it encourages me that the company at least tries to balance things. If you would prefer that your company just give you the most profitable load you can pick one that only gets you home every three months.

The second thing that I like about TMC is the amount of resources that TMC spends to get drivers home. Of course the whiners claim that they aren't home enough hours on a weekend, or they would prefer to get home earlier on Friday, or any other complaints that come to mind. Compare the commitment that TMC makes towards getting you home to the lack of committment from some other companies that you could work for. Now I understand that Maverick makes a similar committment to hometime but I have no firsthand information about them. On Friday TMC planners go to work early lining up loads for trucks. Now imagine that you have about 5 seperate 500 piece jigsaw puzzles and you need to make all of those pieces fit somewhere. Sometimes it is easy and one truck can take any number of loads and be happy. Sometimes there are 100 pieces left over at the end that just don't fit. It isn't anybody's fault, but this isn't the sort of thing that a hammer will fix just right no matter how hard you swing it. Now you can argue that if they had done their job properly there would have been a better load to fit your truck, but that might have thrown another 5 pieces out of whack. TMC hires a lot of people (I would argue not quite enough) and spends a lot of money to keep their promises to drivers about getting home. Consider that most drivers go at least 100 miles out of route (extra) with their loads to get home on the weekend. Some go much more than that of course, but I will guess an average of $50 fuel cost per truck multiplied by 2,000 trucks going home every weekend comes to $100,000 spent per week to get drivers home. That is not pocket change, and yet another reason that the people who say TMC is bankrupt are out of their tree.

I am one that would say Maverick. I am well plesed with them. I have talked with several drivers that we have that are former TMC. All of them said they liked maveric better. One I personally know. He is a IC with mav and we drop our trailers in the same lot when we go home weekly. I am not putting TMC down. They do seem like a good co, but I have talked with a lot of their drivers and former drivers that were not happy with them. I have talked with some that were. So I guess that it depends on the person. I will say that mav will go out of their way to keep a driver happy and they support their drivers 100%. They let you know that you are more important then the freight.
They care more about your safety than the load getting there. They are all about families and they make sure you get home for Christmas and Thanksgiving and will dead head you home if need be to get you there. The couple times I had to get home for emergencies they got me there. When I got home home once and found I had a water leak they sent an empty trailer to my house and took my load. I took the whole week off and they said let us know when you are ready to roll. I recently left them for a month and could not get back there fast enough. I have been with 6 trucking co's as a driver since the 80's. They are by far the best that I have been with.

Well in the area i live they only haul glass and it's regional...i mean i'll keep Maverick in mind...as well as TMC...but money wise...yea Maverick...but being more happy because of truck and i'm seeing the country...then TMC...but i didn't get any calls or mails back yet from TMC...and i'll turn in my application to Maverick monday...so if nobody contacts me...then i'll have really no choice...but this company that does flatbed called PI & I gave me a pre hire...they kinda got my worried because they seem to be a small company based on they website...it's really cheap looking...second...it's 22% starting and rises 1% every year until a max out at 28%...they a give you 300 a week for training...it's not OTR training...it's local work near they main terminal...then on top of that...they don't pay for your food...food isn't a issue...but it kinda shows a sign of how much they willing or NOT willing to do to make drivers happy...
