I was getting on average 2700 to 3000 miles a week running flatbed OTR. Strapping, chaining, or tarping shouldn't effect the miles you run that much. An experienced flatbed driver can strap and tarp you basic load in an hour and a half tops.

Kind of what I was thinking. I run regionally and am home for resets each weekend and average 2500+. Not for Maverick mind you.

Flatbedding is for the people who love to work more for the same (or less) amount of $ that people who work (much) less make. Seriously, I did flatbed for 4 years (stupid, I know). If you don't want to go to the places no van went before, there is no, NO reason to drive a flatbed. It's lots of work, lots of responsibility and risk, lots of unpaid labor/waiting, lots of opportunities to screw up you CDL, DAC, get hurt, get unemployable. And FOR WHAT, an extra 2 cpm (that doesn't make up for the lost miles)? Do the math, flatbed is for the stupid ones.

I don't care how experienced you are, it takes about 3 hours on the average to get loaded and secured, it takes little bit less to get unloaded. That's on a good day when shipper/receiver doesn't keep you waiting (there are not that many of those). If you do short runs, I guarantee you will not shower for days and days. When I had 5 loads/week I didn't have enough of time to sleep (guess how) not speaking of showers, meals, etc. If you are itching to do flatbed anyway, ask about average length of haul, 500-700 miles @ 43 cpm is NOT worth it, you'll make more money hauling 500 miles van loads @36cpm.

Leave it to a door closer to come into a flatbed thread and insult everyone.

The funniest part is he has no clue as to what he's talking about....:biggrin_2559:

IMO flat bedding shouldn't be paid by the mile. The drivers lose out big time.

I know very well what I'm talking about, since you cannot disprove a single thing I said, most likely you are one of those who like to work a lot for less, that's a spirit trucking companies love.
