Hello and Help,
Does anybody have any insight into Maverick Transport?
What about Flatbed versus Van or Reefer?
I have my CDL but no tractor trailer experience.
Here is a loaded question, who do you recommed to start with and why?
Thank you in advance for your information, thoughts and help.

do you have any schooling? If not good luck getting a job almost no one will hire you even if you have the cdl. If no school you will probaly have to school.
If you have no money for school you will not qualify for the WIA program becase one of the requirements is that you can not have a cdl. -
I worked for Maverick for about a year just left recently. They are a good co to start with because they have a great training program.
if you are gonna flatbed be prepared to roast and get nasty in the summer, and freeze and have to tarp in below zero weather in the winter with 30 mph winds. you WILL see this a lot in chicago area which is a major freight area for Maverick because of the vast amount of steel mills in that area.
I liked working for them I got all the miles I wanted and made real good money ussually brought home about $800 a wk. had great equipment and they are a very proffesional outfit with no nonsense or bs.
The problem I had with them is the hometime if you have a family it will be tough they tell you youll be home 98% of the weekends that ussually means get home sat afternoon and leave on sun morn.
A lot of weekends I was home for 12 hrs then back on the road if you are single it may work if married its hard.
When I told my fleet manager the reason I came to Maverick was because of the weekends at home he said we get you home on the weekend. I told him that 12 hrs didnt constitute a weekend he said they never said you would have the whole weekend off. thats when I gave my 2 wks notice.
If hometime is not an issue and hard work in 100+ degree weather in texas in august and well below 0 in northern states in winter months and working in rain in the other months then you will be fine.
I have no hard feelings toward them and left on good terms, good luck in your new career. -

Thanks for the info !
Dirty and toast in the summer and frost bite in the winter?
Hmmm, sounds like my last job in a factory !
Home time? I am fortunate where I do not need to be too concerned about that..
Again, thank you for the info ! -
You won't find a better co than maverick in my opinion. The only reason why I left them was to try a lease program. I turned in my truck yesterday and maverick is trying to get me back on this weekend. I had no second thoughts of what I would do when I left this lease. I was offered a company job, by this company I leased from and if I am going to be a company driver then maverick is my first pick. I have a lot of posts on here about maverick. If you want to wade thru them. Bottom line is they are a good co. I made good money with them. I was treated well. I drove nice equipment and was home almost every weekend.

Update. Well; I am back on with maverick. I should have never left them to start with. Heading back this weekend. Nice to be back in with the best! Good company that treats their drivers well. When I was in their fleet I felt like I belonged there. Even after I quit them they were respectable. They sent me a nice letter and a couple pens and thanked me. They said I was in the top 1/3 of their fleet for fuel mileage. The manager of the recruiters has always been quick to answer me. When I have emailed him I have always gotten a reply within minutes. Even on a Sunday late at night about 6 months or so ago he replied to me about as soon as I hit send on my PC. When I told them I wanted to come back they fast tracked my AP to update it and told me as I was turning in my truck we will do everything we can to bring you in this weekend and they did. No complaints from me. They want the best of the best, but they will take good care of you if you can make the cut.

Notarps - Glad to see you are back "at home" and in that comfort zone. Any story as to why you came back so quickly?

Maverick is a good company. Unlike that ate up outfit I just left....
