I hear from truck driver said if you go to a proper tax accountant they can figure out more ways to write off more stuff while I’m on the road. My company pays .06 cents per mile Per diem and that’s tax free money although in reality, it’s just added to the lump of what I make for mile to be industry competitive. The reality is I probably spend a lot more on expenses each week out on the road then when I am paid in per diem. Depends on what and where I eat and stuff like that. After having been an OTR driver for coming up on 5 1/2 years now, I don’t believe any of us should pay any federal tax. If we’re doing this job full-time, we should be tax exempt.
98% of people who go into this field or not doing it five years later. It’s a unique job that requires a unique person.
I’m Going to make $104,000 this year give or take $5,000 And about 17,000 of that is going to the feds, and another 6000 to my state. Not to mention all the other deductions like medical, long-term disability, 401(k), you name it. If I get a check for the week that say $2200, Only about $1350 goes into my account.
