    I have a question about location of the centrifical oil filters found on some of the maxforce engines. I am unclear of engine size at this time but its a maxforce that is in a workstar chassis it could be the 11lt. The municipality I wrench for now has four workstar plow trucks the oldest being about three years old up to a 2013 model. with the maxforce engine on a few of the trucks when you shut the engine off you can hear the filter wind down but I just don't know were it is located. I also have found no information online about location of the filter or how to change it. I ordered the filter and it looks just like the spin filters that were used in the 427 mack engines. If any one has changed one on the maxforce or can post a link about it that would be great.

    If it is a 11l the filter is usually frame mounted somewhere at the right front corner. Not 100% sure on a Workstar. There is also the crankcase oil separator for the blow-by gases that will make a similar sound at shut down as it is also a centrifugal type. The crankcase separator is not serviceable. If you have Maxxforce DT, 9 or 10 series it may not have the centrifugal oil filter, but they will have the same crankcase separator. Here is a link to what the oil filter looks like;

    If you do have this, there are a couple of things to watch out for. When you put the top back on and tighten the clamp, make sure the handle of the clamp will clear the hood and/or fender because it does stick out a lot. Also, keep an eye out for the bearing in the housing and lid that they do not come out with the filter.

    Excellant info both of you. I am now certain that it is the crankcase sepperator that I am hearing. There are no other compartments that resemble the spin filter housing so now I know they don't have one. As I have stated I knew what I was looking for as the 427 macks had them I just could'nt find it anywhere. And the crankcase sepperator was what I was wondering if that was it. Thanks guys.
